. @GlennKefford’s late-night post about finding some comfort in favourite old #music during these strange #lockdown times got me thinking... brought to mind @staffo_sez’s emotive recent memoir with its reminders of music’s nostalgic, soothing power. Indulgent thread following

Music underscored my formative years. Growing up in 80s Brisbane, the often stifling heat - and culture - was relieved by, for one, new wave and indie #music via @4zzzradio and live bands. Find myself returning a lot lately to this soundtrack of my youth, like a security blanket.
A bit over a year ago I turned 50
Put on a long lunch at home, lots of great food and drink. But the day *had* to feature a playlist of favourite #music to make it truly memorable. Idea occurred to pick a pair of songs from every year since birth, a ‘hot 100’ of my lifetime

This playlist became an emotional labour of love. Almost posted something about it at the time, but felt too personal. But in these odd #lockdown circumstances, and a long weekend to fill, now feels right to create a #music archive. The nostalgia is strong with this one ...

Thinking behind chosen songs wasn’t necessarily *best* but tracks that were widely known and meant something to me or those close to me. Maybe they’ll mean something to others too... as it happens, first tune on the list was No. 1 on day I was born in 1968
Figure I’ll add playlist songs/videos to this thread over time, but while I’m feeling nostalgic I’ll keep ‘em spinning... second track from 1968 is still a fave, and younger me thrilled at the once-rumoured ’dark intent’ behind this #RollingStones song
