The thing with a show like #Memorist is that, there needs to be a balance of questions raised vs questions answered in order for it to be enjoyable. Right now, there are a ton of questions being raised and the longer they are left unanswered, the more frustrated I get. (1/10)
Besides “Who is the eraser?” I want to know why a shaman possessed Jaegyu, who Intae’s brother is, who are the people higher up than the deputy chief, why Dongbaek gave so much money to the old man etc. A girl needs to know. (2/10)
That’s not to say that I’m not enjoying this show – I love the message that your memories can be erased, but the feelings can’t. My favourite scene is the hospital one with Yitae and him immediately calming down when he sees Sanghwa. I’m a sucker for true love! #memorist (3/10)
In terms of continuity, we once again see Dongbaek’s protectiveness of Sunmi. It’s getting more overt. The part where they go underground is funny, but notice how the moment DB climbs down he still insists on walking in front. #memorist (4/10)
Then in ep 10, it’s like the show is practically spelling it out – mostly through Kyungtan. Dongbaek Is extremely empathetic, he feels everything when he scans, he’s impulsive because he cares a lot. And YET, when the eraser targets one person – It’s Sunmi. (5/10) #memorist
We've seen Dongbaek getting defeated over not being able to save someone – but this time the show is SO CLEAR. As Dongbaek says, the Eraser will murder someone whose death will cause him pain. Sunmi y’all. SUNMI. (6/10) #memorist #baekmi
Framing is also never coincidental. Sunmi is intentionally framed with Dongbaek in those long shots. There’s a beat after Kyungtan says the murderer wants DB to suffer. They cut to a close-up shot of Sehoon, but then cut into a shot of DB and SM. Together. (7/10) #memorist
Because of the depth of field, we concentrate on DB, but SM is right there. It’s saying – DB may not be focusing on her, and may not realise it’s her – but she's there. And then to hit the point home, Kyungtan says, “Well then it can’t be me”. Well, yea. (8/10) #memorist
Look at the framing too – what a nice foreshadowing of events that will soon occur – The camera extreme close-up and the focus on Sehoon, before shifting to Sunmi. (9/10) #memorist
I’m still not sure how the Eraser knowing DB's past trauma would link to SM, but I guess we will find out next week. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that they are both geniuses (something that was pointed out by SM week). (10/10) #memorist
