What tourists to rural areas seem to misunderstand is that local hospital services and funding are based on the steady state population of the area. This means services are designed to cope with that number of people. Additional influx automatically put pressure on those services
If you visit an A&E department any given bank holiday weekend or summer break, you will see a vast amount of people that could/should be treated at GPs. If the tourists were at home it is what they would do, however because they have no GP in the area they use A&E..
Another pressure on emergency services in rural areas is that there is a disproportionate amount of older people. This is due to two main reasons, a) many people retire to these areas to retire and b) younger people cannot afford local housing and move away from the area...
The added pressure of #COVIDー19 means that other services etc are sacrificed in a service already stretched.
So that is why we say "stay away" during this time. You will be protecting yourselves, our NHS front line staff and our local communities.
