death of the author actually has zero bearing on the pragmatic consequences of supporting a work
i say this as someone who is a no-reservations 100% Death of The Author devotee. i believe authorial intent has anything to do inherently with the appreciation or interpretation of a text.
also the statement of fact isnt meant as a carte-blanche indictment of supporting any specific thing. i believe everything is situational and nuanced and, in a lot of cases, incredibly personal
the point of the original tweet is that you cannot defend your choice of supporting a work by an actively harmful creator, such as orson scott card, by claiming "death of the author". that idea is about critical interpretation of a text.
furthermore, i dont agree with death of the author because i wanna be able to blamelessly enjoy works from problematic creators, its a critical theory i think is more accurate and useful
and the third tweet in this thread is that, while you cannot use DotA as a get-out-jail-free card, im not saying theres any sole arbiter of what is right to consume and that there are lots of factors that one must personally juggle. and im not here to be the judge
