that lilo post is one of the worst takes i've ever heard and i am incensed. if i never see or hear that take again it will still be too soon
i've wanted to make a video about lilo and stitch for 6 years now and i'm honestly too infuriated to work one it rn but maybe one day i'll touch on it. there are so, SO many reasons that movie is good, important, and helpful, compassionate, realistic..
there are so many reasons that those hot takes are awful and upsetting, but worst of all is the way that some people supporting it talk about "lack" of strict parenting or punishment or harshness from nani to lilo is so, absolutely horrible and gross to hear
having studied childhood dev for a few years, i have so much compassion for parents!! i really do! but i have an extremely low tolerance specifically for parents who believe they know how to do it right and believe in strong punishment
i recognize that because i'm not a parent, a lot of these types of people write me off as not knowing what i'm talking about, but like in so many areas people who think and insist they know it all and know how to do things right, that's a huge red flag
and advocating punishment no less.

nani yells back at lilo! she grounds her, she tells her she's in the wrong, she's not a hands off parent! she's not telling lilo she's in the right!

so what HARSHER punishment are these people demanding in this movie? what is it exactly?
do they want the parental figure to shame this child who is struggling with significant behavioural issues as a result of grief? to hurt her? oh no of course they wouldn't use positive punishment, no no hurting kids isn't allowed nowadays, but negative punishment that's still ok
right?? maybe take away scrump?? take away a meal or two? teach her a lesson right
ok i'm going to end this thread here and tw for abuse and parental abuse in particular but like

like i said i have an extremely low tolerance for this topic, and it is so deeply upsetting to see it in my feed as a hot take on my favourite fkn movie
