where iâm from we try to take these remarks lightly since we do laugh about the eye joke among ourselves but it was and is still something that can be used to instigate a fight (2/8)
the term is âmata sepetâ, which is malay for âsquinty eyesâ. in a multiracial country thereâs (sadly) bound to be racial tension, and this has led to bloodshed in the past (go look up the 13 May 1969 incident) (3/8)

iâve only had one racist experience? it was just outside town iirc, and my family were in a car driving somewhere/home when a group of kids (wonât specify details) rode past us on bikes and shouted âCina babiâ (Malay for âpig chineseâ; âCinaâ - Chinese, âBabiâ - Pig) (5/8)
