/ THREAD Few quick comments regarding the Papadopoulos/Wiseman transcript which was released yesterday.
/ (A) First, for everyone’s clarification, I hadn’t seen that @CJBdingo25 had tweeted Wiseman’s name while I was working through the transcript with folks in some DMs, before we too figured it out. But yes, Chris had already ID’d Source 3 before I DMed some people with the name.
/ (B) Not sure if this has been addressed, but I think @ChuckRossDC incorrectly assumed the date of the transcript was October 31, 2016 (a Monday), due to the references to it being “Halloween” throughout the transcript.
/ However, I think the correct date is October 29, 2016 (Saturday), and the references to Halloween refer more to Halloween weekend. First page of the transcript, someone (an FBI agent?) tells Wiseman to “have a good weekend.”
/ Additionally, Comey informed Congress on October 28, 2016, that the FBI was re-opening the MYE investigation. If PapaD’s conversation was the following day, then “yesterday” makes perfect sense and fits perfectly this redaction.
/ There are several other indicators that the conversation occurs on a Saturday (NFL game the following day, etc.). With so much occurring in Spygate during those last few days of October, I think ensuring an accurate date for the conversation is very important.
/ (C) Finally, some people have asked whether we learned anything new from the specific identification of Source 3. I think the answer is a resounding YES.
/ When discussing why Papadopoulos’ denials seemed to not be credible during his conversation with Halper (Source 2), several CH members stated that his response seemed “rehearsed.”
/ But Halper was part of PapaD’s “professional life,” which is VASTLY different than someone in his “personal life.” If PapaD seems guarded around a known political operative, that’s one thing. But he said the same things to his old college buddy during a day out on the town.
END/ Regardless of the fact that his exculpatory statements to Halper should have been disclosed the FISC, his statements to Wiseman DEFINITELY should have been disclosed in the first Renewal in January 2017. This excuse from Somma (Case Agent 1) is frankly utter bull.
