Anak Krakatoa erupted today, blasting ash 47,000 ft into the sky. This is not unusual for Anak (son of Krakatoa) and doens't signal an 1883 style event. The last major eruption was 2018, causing a localized tsunami killing > 450 people. (Photo is from smaller 2018 eruption)
What makes Anak Krakatoa so fascinating, apart from the insanely massive eruption of 1883, is that every eruption is spectacular. The type of magma there causes explosive eruptions, blasting the island apart time after time.
The current eruption is considered part of an ongoing pattern from 2019.
The volcano has already settled down from it's earlier burp.
If that calms you down, consider the explosion that must have occurred when Lake Toba was created some 75,000 years ago. It was perhaps the largest eruption in 25 million years, blasting a massive crater out of what is now Indonesia.
