Had a student jump on my Zoom meeting today even though he was working landscape with his dad. He set the phone down and left his AirPod in so he could hear. I told him he didn’t have to stay, but he wanted to. He said “Nah it’s cool Mrs. Carroll, I want to listen.” He also got
to show us what he did! I had another student who was telling me what her role around the house was and how she took care of younger siblings. Had another student tell me she completed loads of extra school work her mom had her do. Our kids have SO much going on that we can’t
begin to plan for. I’m so thankful for the time we got today, but it really had me thankful for the moments I did get with my kids to get to know them this year. You see that boy that was working landscape, but wanted to be part of our conversation today, was the same boy
that didn’t say a word for 3 weeks at the start of the school year. That didn’t know if he could trust his new environment, didn’t know who I was and my intentions, and probably wondered why I was invested in him...now he knows. He has found his community. I miss my little crew.
