While it may appear that Sweden’s approach is dramatically different from US or other countries that have “lockdowns” on paper, in reality there is lots of movement of people in many regions with lockdowns and Sweden’s deaths per million is far lower than Spain, Italy, France, NY https://twitter.com/shadihamid/status/1248664536078483462
Covid-19 deaths per million:

Sweden: 90
New York: 400

So it’s not *whether* you “lockdown” that makes the biggest difference, it’s when you do it, and whether people responsibly practice social distancing. https://twitter.com/khanoisseur/status/1248816691724922881
Population density makes a big difference:

Sweden: 64 people per mi2
New York (State): 421 people per mi2
New York City: 27,000-70,000 people per mi2

So New York “locked down” late and even with lockdowns people are cramming in buses, trains, apartments without masks. https://twitter.com/khanoisseur/status/1248817683791052807
“Social distancing” within a densely populated city like New York (in particular Manhattan) isn’t alone going to stop the spread of Covid-19. NY’s population may need to be migrated (reduce density) to other parts of New York or other states to allow for proper social distancing. https://twitter.com/khanoisseur/status/1248673609880686592
