It could easily reformat it, but no. https://twitter.com/profalankchen/status/1248661688099848192
I will continue to maintain that double spaces are good for fixed width fonts, and bad for proportional fonts, and that computers are smart enough to know what to do without me having to change my typing style; meaning programs that force me to type one way are shitty programs.
Side tangent: obviously Python's indentation requirement was originally intended as a joke, but some neckbeard had to take it seriously and now we're stuck with it. Sure, it's one way to end the whitespace wars, but it's the wrong way.
(Clearly the right way is de/re-formatters for all source code control systems so everyone sees the code they way they like to see the code. Come code-review time, there can be an agreed-upon "universal" format.)
Side side tangent: Tabs-vs-spaces. JWZ wrote the definitive treatise on this TWENTY YEARS AGO and it spurred me to figure out how to get my editor to turn me hitting the TAB key into an appropriate number of spaces. https://www.jwz.org/doc/tabs-vs-spaces.html
