10% of all the wealth on Earth is hidden in tax havens by billionaires and millionaires. In 2019, global GDP was $86.6 trillion, which means about $8.6trn is sitting in bank accounts right now not being used for the sole purpose of avoiding tax. Here's what that could pay for:
Just to grasp how much money that is, if you printed out that amount in one dollar bills, it would weigh 8.66m tonnes. To put that into perspective, the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest is the heaviest building on Earth at 4.1m tonnes.
If you printed out this money that was hidden away for the sole purpose of avoiding tax, it would be as heavy as two Palace of the Parliament's placed on top of each other and then some.
