This w/end would’ve been the @natfolkfest in Canberra. Although I wasn’t going this year a friend & I have decided to have our own personal folk festival with a selection of our CDs. I’ll be tweeting my selection so if #folkmusic is not your thing you may want to mute me /1
My selection is a personal history of memorable gigs, artists I love (local & international), artists I’ve been introduced to at the #VictorianFolkMusic Club concert nights & probably a few random selections. First up is the Guinness Celebration of Irish Music in Melb 1993-95 /2
These concerts (which I saw in Canberra) were my introduction to folk music. Will never forget the sound of the audience in the #LlewellynHall stamping their feet along with #ChristyMoore #DonalLunny etc. And have loved @MaryBlackSinger ever since. /3
Around this time I also saw the 1991 BBC/RTE Bringing it all Back Home TV series about the journey & influence of Irish music /4
Some wonderful performances in this series (which are now a bit tricky to find online) but this is one of my favourites /5

The Irish Traditional Music Archive (based in Dublin) was one of the resources used to research the series https://www.itma.ie @ITMADublin /6
One of the 1st folk festivals I went to in Melbourne was the Dandenong Ranges Folk Festival in Olinda in 2001. Hard to forget the energetic performance of Adelaide-based Scottish-Irish band @TheBorderers When they sing “Jump Right In” they mean it! /7
Found the 2001 program for the Dandenong Ranges Folk Festival has been archived. A helpful reminder of the other acts we saw, including @KateandRuth More on this talented duo later
