Analogy time. Do you know what vectors are? Vectors are points with a direction and velocity. Like massless pieces of dust moving in space.
Think of your policy goals as efforts to get from one place to another in political apace. There are a lot of interacting forces right? Separate those down into forces in specific directions. Force vectors.
So you'd look at parts of the right wing trying to push the policy toward increased inequality and freedom for the powerful and the left pushing toward decreased inequality and power distribution right.

But most forces aren't exactly going one way or another.
If you're pushing head on the side with the greatest force gets the motion, right? But if you've played pool you know that directions are infinite and forces can work in unexpected ways.
Slight deviations in angle can create big deviations in end point right? Conservation of momentum is a vector function.
Have I lost you yet? Hope not.

So Trump decided to use the head on force method against a system that had adapted to dealing with small multidirectional forces. And they still haven't adapted to that and developed a single unidirectional opposing force.
And while they sometimes manage to slightly deviate his path they have not amassed the needed directional force to prevent his movement of policy hard to the right. He's a freight train, not a pool cue.
So the thing with Biden is that he's still playing pool. The question is going to be whether we can stop the train with a pool cue

I mean I'm going to try because that's the tool I was given. And I'm pretty smart so maybe I can MacGyver it into a derailment device or something
I'm not going to give up stopping the train because it's coming for my family and people I care about, and I don't have access to a train going the other direction to do a suicide run with.
And at least the pool cue has some force in the right direction. Not all of it, but some of it will work against the train.
