People who modify your vehicles to make the exhaust smell as humanly horrible as possible: Why?

You do realize that horrible smell is wasted fuel right? It's not burning, which is why it comes out the tailpipe and makes it smell.

Read up on the stoichiometric ratio. You can't go faster by running your engine stupidly rich.
