Just finished my reread of the Black Swordsman Arc and I noticed a buncha cool stuff

Theresia is a very interesting char in the short screen time she gets and parallels / contrasts Farnese in many ways.

Short thread below:
Theresia has been locked up in her room all her life and the moment Guts enters her world, it is shattered. Her world view, everything she knows is all wrong.

This is similar to how Farnese looked to religion as an escape or distraction from the horrors of reality and her life
Also in Farnie's case, the moment Guts enters her life, he exposes her views as shallow and insincere. She realizes that the world is much much darker than she initially thought it was
In both of their cases, Guts imbues some sort of ambition / dream within them. Guts inspires Farnie to live life as she pleases and gently nudges her to pursue her own goals

In a similar yet diametric manner, Guts encourages Theresia to keep living so she will get revenge
They share some other surface level similarities such as: similar hairstyle, poor relationship with their father, and even some poses they're drawn in.

Example:
Here is where they differ:

When Farnie's world was shattered, she used this to move forward and learn more about herself and the world around her.

Theresia desired to retreat back to her illusion of safety and sought comfort in ignorance
While their relationships with their father's are similar, they're also opposites. Both felt neglected but in Theresia's case, it was from over-protectiveness and for Farnie, it was just a complete neglect / lack of care
The way Guts treated them is also interesting to note:

I don't think Guts meant to be antagonistic here out of bad will. He wanted this girl to live and didn't know how to motivate her besides guiding her towards revenge. He's broken himself and just wanted her to cling to life
To Farnie he said:

Guts became stronger and kinder and learned of ways to deal with and interact with others. He is gentle and welcoming to Farnie although not entirely warm

This differs vastly from how he treated Theresia
Anyway, I think all the parallels are interesting ESPECIALLY because we've seen basically 0 from Theresia. She was involved in Berserk's first arc and promised to get revenge against Guts. Her journey parallels Farnie's directly except she opposes Guts instead of following him
Was Miura foreshadowing this all along? I wouldn't be surprised if he was given how skilled he is at tying plot points together but I'm sure he has plans for Theresia in the future.

Regardless, it's cool how the themes reverberate throughout the story if you look a bit deeper
hope yall enjoyed reading
