My top 20 Lorde songs - this is my first time doing one of these so excuse my writing

I love all of her songs so it was difficult to narrow down
20. Supercut

An emotional song where Lorde reflects on the highs and lows of a previous relationship but ultimately comes to terms with the fact that she must move on
19. No Better

A fun song where teenagers have fun on summer nights and make the most of their time being young

Wish this one was on streaming services
18. Tennis Court

A reflective song where Lorde looks at her newfound fame and status.

The hook is super catchy and I love the opening line “Don’t you think that it’s boring how people talk” in relation to the album and the closing line on World Alone
17. Writer in the Dark

An emotional ballad where Lorde mourns her lover walking out on her and states that she will never stop loving him. Her falsetto on the hook is super hard hitting
16. White Teeth Teens

In this song Lorde looks at the popular cliques and accepts that she will never be a part of them while realizing their emptiness. The bridge at the end is beautiful
15. Liability

This is a very emotional and poetic ballad where she dances by herself in an empty room thinking she’ll never be good enough for others. The imagery in this song is vivid and I think many people can relate to its subject matter
14. Yellow Flicker Beat

This is one of Lorde’s songs for the Hunger Games soundtracks and wow is it catchy. She plays the role of Katniss in her lyrics and she does it really well. I love the use of colors in the hook too
13. 400 Lux

This beautiful track is a chill, heartwarming drive home with a significant other where nothing can go wrong. I love the little details she includes like the line about orange juice and self-aware lines like “we might be hollow but we’re brave” Perfect, cute song
12. Bravado

This track perfectly details the dichotomy between Lorde’s desire to be accepted and her shyness. She describes flipping a switch to find her bravado. Her vocals on the song are stunning and the beat shifts/choruses make the song extremely catchy
11. The Louvre

This song describes the warmth and excitement of falling in love with someone to the point where it is described as a “psychotic crush” and we hear her booming heartbeat on the chorus. The outro is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard
10. Team

This song is nostalgic for me. When I was 10 years old, this was my favorite song and I listened to it everyday. It always brought me to another world and made me miss somewhere I’d never been. “Living in ruins of a palace within my dreams” is my all time favorite line
9. Liability Reprise

This comforting song details Lorde’s acceptance of herself and realization that she isn’t the liability and burden that she previously felt she was. The last line shows her leaving her old mindset and the party
8. Everybody Wants to Rule the World

Another one of Lorde’s songs for the Hunger Games Soundtrack. This haunting, eerie remake of what was once a cheery, feel-good song is brilliant. It slowly gets faster and darker as the song progresses & her low voice is perfect for the tone
7. Buzzcut Season

This dark, beautiful song details a dark period of war with teenagers at home trying to distract themselves from this ongoing danger. They attempt to remain in a state of bliss without accepting these dark problems. “nothings wrong when nothings real”
6. Magnets

This song is extremely fun and catchy where Lorde embraces the point of no return, luring and dancing with someone who already has a girlfriend. Lorde needs to do more features like this, they are always great
5. Hard Feelings/Loveless

This dreamy, otherworldly track and its two parts perfectly juxtapose the beauty and sadness of heartbreak and a relationship. Hard Feelings is stunning and I love the intimate details of buying groceries and dancing. Loveless shows the desolation after
4. The Love Club

This gentle, innocent song describes her want to be accepted joining a clique but yet again realizing that she just wants to be alone and that cliques are empty. Her vocals and the bridge of the song are beautiful
3. Ribs

This song perfectly shows the fear of growing up/desire to stay young/innocent forever. Similar lines repeat as the song gets faster showing her angst & uncontrollable force of time. It shows the loneliness of maturing and her wish to laugh forever with an innocent mind
2. Perfect Places

Lorde describes the perfect places they try to reach while partying before questioning whether such a place really exists. Our adolescences will never be perfect, but the best we can do is take our lives one day at a time & be the best people we can be
Honorable Mentions - even with her lack of songs it was hard not to include these:

Meltdown
Royals
Homemade Dynamite
Sober 2
Ladder Song
Glory & Gore
Sober
1 - A WORLD ALONE

My favorite song of all time, this song takes me to another world. It describes dancing in a world alone without negative people or cliques. It gives a final answer to the first line of Tennis Court with the final line “Let em Talk”
Thanks for reading this thread, it was really fun to make. The character limit was really limiting for a lot of these, I think I could write a whole essay on songs like Buzzcut Season and Ribs
