Was in a good mood today bc our neighbor state Virginia signed a number of gun safety bills into law that will make DC safer. (Did u know the majority of illegal guns in DC come from VA?)

Then on our final walk of the day we ran into a group of teen boys, and one had been shot.
He was bleeding on the sidewalk, and someone had already called 911, but he asked me to call his mom. So I did, and my heart broke when he said “Mom, I’ve been shot” and I heard the panic in her voice as she told him she was on her way.
And this is why, as a DC resident, my kids and I drove to Virginia 4x last year to attend the special session after the VA beach shootings, to knock on doors for gun sense candidates, and to spread the message that a safer VA = a safer DC.
This kid is why I volunteer with @MomsDemand, why I support the work of violence interruption groups like @Curethestreets in DC, and why I will never stop fighting for gun safety laws that have the research and evidence behind them to save lives.
