I have been “mansplained” for over 20 years. For the better part of that I have been in a position of lower power to speak about it, but I feel like the time is now to start calling it out - especially with all of the brilliant women and specialists I know. This is the 1st time/1
I’ve tweeted that word because over my career, using it has made me a target. “Not all men” “you’re just whining” “oh no, not another one...”

But now, in what I am seeing with the pandemic, men in power speaking over the actual experts - often women - in epidemiology etc. /2
Whatever you call it, those in power have taken women and BIPOC expertise and work, and, in their positions of power, have claimed them as their own, and presented it without context. I use the term mansplain here not out of disrespect but out of a catch all of this concept. /3
Working in corporate, oil and gas, or acedemia, I’ve never been in a position of not worrying that whatever stance I take may be a #CLM (Career Limiting Move). But I’m learning that I cannot serve if I am silent. I’m grateful for those who support me in this space. /4
And I feel the need to personally add that with all my development and life experience, I still feel deep anxiety and fear over posting something like this publicly. Nothing like taking the opportunity of a huge platform to “tell on myself”. Thank you to the founders for this.
Thank you. ❤️
