I'm usually all for freedoms and civil liberties. I strongly believe in the constitution and all rights granted to all peoples.

But when it comes to churches trying to get away with large gatherings and claiming religious freedom... I start to draw a line. /1
These preachers are in a position of authority and power in their religious communities. The congregation looks to them for leadership and guidance.

They are the Shepard to the flock.
So when the preacher who wants to keep his doors open to collect money (especially Easter as it's like their super bowl for attendance) and tells people "dont worry god will protect you" the people believe them. Why wouldn't they?
They believe the pastor has their best interest at heart and will follow him because of his connection to god.

They will ignore others because god is above all else and believe god will save them from any danger the virus presents.
These preachers are abusing their positions of power and are willfully putting people in danger.

And that's why I agree with punishing them.

Your rights stop at the line where you endanger other people. Your civil liberties are not a free pass to potentially harm others.
