These establishment autopsies of @BernieSanders campaign as a rejection of class-politics (it's not) are from same outlets who were finding Jesus/explaining why "Bernie had won" 10 days before Super Tuesday when he was on verge of clinching Dem nomination https://twitter.com/voxdotcom/status/1248629329745121280
The truth is, @BernieSanders lost not because class politics isn't a thing or winning electoral strategy. He lost because voters over 50 ( @JoeBiden base) came out way more across the board than voters under 50 (who @Bernie win). Just look at Michigan
And although some dismiss pointing out the media as making "excuses" for @BernieSanders--truth is the majority of voters over 50 consume corporate cable news & establishment-loving print/digital outlets who pushed propaganda for 5 years saying Bernie was unelectable & "radical."
to act like that constant propaganda fed 2 older voters isn't the dominant reason they go out and vote for candidates like Biden over Bernie (whose policies exit polls show they agree with) is just denying common sense reality. I can tell you because I've interviewed older voters
across the country....7 out of 10 of them regurgitate talking points coming from Morning Joe or @cnn pundits. Manufacturing consent is a real thing--and it swings elections (Biden got over $100 million in free positive airtime after South Carolina in 3 days before Super Tuesday)
This, of course, doesn't excuse Bernie-who made many mistakes. For starters, Sanders should have gone in for the kill many times on @JoeBiden--pointing out not only he is not "middle class Joe" but that his policies have actively and WILL actively hurt middle class working people
Kind of hard to do that if you keep calling him your friend, saying you think he could beat Trump, and clearly holding back attacks during debates. Should've pointed out Biden is an electoral liability against Trump because he is @HillaryClinton in male form...but even WEAKER
Should've also gone directly after voters 65 & older under angle of @JoeBiden is threatening your kids and grandkids very survival---by supporting fracking, funding his campaign with big oil donors, proposing no urgent climate plan. Handing him your vote is endangering your kids
Some may say that language is too strong---but that's the kind of language and direct attack that makes voters inclined to go with the moderate/"safer" choice pause for a moment and contemplate. Remember--Super Tuesday exit polls showed most voters across 14 states decided on
Biden in the final few days before....meaning they were still sway-able. Frankly, Bernie wouldn't go after him in the direct, aggressive way he had to bc Biden was nice to him and Jane 20 years ago when he first came to the Senate. If you don't sell voters on why you're opponent
is a fraud, or a threat, or incompetent....you are basically saying "well I think I'm fine, but he or she is decent and can win." Which then gives them the permission to vote for them since David Axelrod, Jennifer Granholm, Neera Tanden, and the rest of the establishment robots..
on @cnn and @msnbc tell them that Biden is the safer bet. This, in a nutshell, is why Bernie lost. Because he wasn't willing to be ruthless when that's the only way to beat a Democratic Party machine that has essentially morphed into one, big giant U.S. Chamber Wall St
