IMPT @NYCHA (NYC Projects/Section 8) COVID-19 THREAD:

As we are urged to stay home to slow the spread of COVID-19, the importance of living in humane, breathable, clean, sanitary conditions is more important than ever. We NEED & NEEDED NYCHA to step up. Unfortunately...
we can't rely on NYCHA to protect us. as a community, protect yourselves & your families by being EXTRA cautious. DONT put your lives & health in NYCHAs hands. Although they SHOULD..DO NOT expect them to disinfect common areas when they’ve failed us before. Lets not sit & watch..
For more context on how poor families like mine (& thousands of others) have been forced to live in disgusting unlivable environments (for years), click here:

The govt announced that NYCHA MUST cover the cost of deep cleaning & hire/PROTECT their staff. Yet families who live in these buildings have not seen any efforts with sanitation or previous repair complaints.
On April 7th, NYCHA put up a post looking to hire maintenance & cleaning staff….TWO DAYS AGO…thousands of people are sick or dead & now they decided to expand their team...plus offer only $19.33 per hour for a RISKY job without masks & such...
So pls:

-Wear masks
-Wipe your door knobs w. antibacterial spray/wipes
-After you wipe down your door, wipe down the main door in the lobby, to protect our neighbors
-Wear gloves when throwing out trash
-Only go outside IF necessary
-Check in on your neighbors via phone/text
This map tells basically shows COVID-19 is striking low-income communities of color extremely hard. A lot of these zip codes contain section 8's as well.
More than 80K NYCHA residents are seniors. Queensbridge alone is the LARGEST public housing complex w. over 10K residents, & over 3K units. We are practically stacked on top of each other, so the transfer of the virus can go fast & will effect us all if we aren’t united & safe.
be safe, be kind, & please don’t put your health, LIVES, & safety in the hands of a corrupt system. Check in on your elderly neighbors.

When your buying groceries, check to see if they need anything. I am praying NYCHA steps their shit up, lowers rents, etc… but REMEMBER…
There are THOUSANDS of families who needed repairs LAST YEAR, & now are suffering even more. THOUSANDS of families who need flooding/leak relief, pest/mold relief, etc…who are being neglected.

Here are screen shots of a few ppl who are using social media to ask for help:
As you can see, by the end of March, 5000 people filed unresolved complaints for not having heat. I can't even imagine what that number is up to now. NYCHA has a habit of closing complaints in their system without addressing them (this can be shown here: https://twitter.com/xoxoIlham/status/1202027771146293248?s=20)
My prayers go to everyone who is vulnerable and living in @NYCHA , let's stick together now more than ever.
