PART 2
(1)May 2017. A Nigerian Navy got a rude shock when the Flagship of the Cameroonian navy ship Calabar waters at 12 noon on the 19th of May 2017 without warning, complete with senior naval personnel, Cameroonian journalists and French dignitaries.
(2) The commander of information at the Eastern Naval command, commander Abdulkadr said the Nigerian Navy were yet to be formally briefed about the mission of the flagship. But there was more surprise awaiting Commander Abdulkadr.
(3) Suddenly emerged the Ambassador of Cameroon to Nigeria. He was escorted into the ship where he received salutes from Cameroonian navy personnel. The Cameroonian ambassador did not speak to journalist. Neither was there a congent explanation.
(4) This was a significant move because. Nigeria did not only lose Bakassi to Cameroon. The ICJ ruling blocked the Nigerian navy's Eastern Naval Command access to the Atlantic Ocean. As a consequence Nigeria will have to seek permission from Cameroon before passing the through
(5)The Nigerian Navy also feared having Cameroon military patrol the waters exclusively, portends danger for Nigeria's economic interest in the region, a poser for movement of oil tankers in out of the country's South-eastern waters into the international sea.
(6)For instance, in the event of a war, and France will most likely back Cameroon and without access from the east, defending critical oil infrastructure becomes impossible. The sudden unannounced visit of a Cameroon warship armed with exocet anti-ship missiles was a statement.
(7) But there is precedence. February 2013 : Cameroon formally rejects a request by the Nigerian government to allow its troops go after fleeing Boko Haram fighters in in Cameroon.
(8)On November 30, 2015, Cameroonian troops crossed the into the Nigeria, where they allegedly shot and killed about 150 villagers, burned their homes and forced many of them to flee. AGAIN NO WORD from the Nigerian government.
(9)January 2016. At least 40 villagers in Gwadale border community under Gwoza local government area of Borno state were feared killed on as soldiers of the Cameroonian national allegedly opened fire on them.
(10)This is the third time troops of the Cameroonian Armed forces have engaged in reckless cross border activities that had so far claimed nearly 200 lives. Mostly innocent civilians.
(11)December 20 2017. Cameroonian troops this month crossed into Nigeria in pursuit of rebels without seeking authorization from Nigeria, causing a falling-out between the governments behind the scenes.
(12) December 27 2017. Cameroonian gendarmes storm Danare community in Cross Rivers and abducted five persons from Danare on the pretext that they were suspected youths involved in the fight for the creation of Ambazonia.
(13)Cameroon officials accuse Nigeria of sheltering Ambazonian separatists after a training camp was discovered at Ekpe. Cameroon vows to go after Ambazonian leaders wherever they may run to.
(14) January 5 2018. Cameroon makes good on its threat by abducting the entire leadership of the Ambazonian movement at Nera hotel inthe capital city of Nigeria Abuja
(15)January 2018 No fewer than 80 Cameroonian gendarmes on Monday crossed the international border between Nigeria and Cameroon and invaded Danare, in the Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State. The gendarmes claimed they were fighting Cameroonian militants
(16)Again Cameroonian gendarmes stormed Danare for the second time in 2 weeks at around 2am and started shooting, sending panic stricken villagers fleeing into the bush. By the time they left they said their mission was to warn residents of Danare to prepare for their return to
(17)In defiance Cameroonian officials accuse Nigeria of sheltering Anglophone insurgents. They have been based in the dense equatorial forests that straddle the border between the two countries, fighting for an independent state they call Ambazonia.
(18)This is what Cross River State Security Adviser, Mr. Jude Ngaji said. '' “This is a calculated offensive from Cameroonian military on Nigeria. They have shown outright defiance to supremacy of Nigerian territorial sovereignty and blighted the consequences of crossing
(19) ''the international boundary to carry out all sorts of intimidation and harassment on already alarmed residents of Danare, with warnings of further assaults,” The issue has gone beyond the police. The Nigerian Army has just deployed a battalion in the area.''
The docility of the Nigerian government towards the flagrant violation of its territory has done nothing but emboldened our adversaries. We like to kid ourselves into thinking they are allies but deep down we know better.
(20) Nigeria was in the midst of the Boko Haram insurgency when Cameroon maliciously gave Nigeria only 24 72 hours warning before opening up the lagbo dam, located in north central cameroon, flooding Nigeria, rendering 55,000 people homeless and killing 300
Cameroon claimed it gave enough time for Nigeria to evacuate its citizens. The arrogance and absurdity of giving a nation 72 hours to evacuate its citizens and then draining a dam thereafter is bad enough. That in itself constitute an act of war
But our adversaries have seen first hand the governments indifference towards protecting the lives of its people. They are emboldened by what they see and have acted accordingly with little regard for the sovereignty of the Nigerian state
