A fujoshi isn't someone who is a 'gross fan who enjoys content in the wrong way and fetishizes gay people'

Ur thinking of the word 'asshole'

Don't be one. Don't use fujoshi incorrectly. I'm on the floor please educate yourself about Japanese fandom
History lesson.

Japanese dudebros (who dont give 2 fucks about gay people) called female fans of mlm "fujoshi" meaning rotten woman.

Japanese, and often queer, women reclaimed it and use it to identify with other fujoshis. It's a self descriptor for any woman who likes mlm.
In Japan it's manners to tag ur BL works so non shippers won't see your content. While I personally dislike how jp fandom treats BL so much differently from wlw or m/f, it's common courtesy to not talk about characters in a gay without censoring the name.
"Fujoshi" stayed, as a necessity. "fudanshi" was born for male fans of mlm, gay or not. a less used example is "fujin", meaning "rotten person". these terms help people who like BL/mlm content to stick together and know who is comfortable discussing ships.
"but emi that's all about japan we're talking about gross western fans"

okay. gross people exist everywhere, but you're saying abt these "uwu yaoi Boyz lawl butt seks" people right? who barely exist anymore and are usually 12-15. the ones who brought a bad name to the word.
here's the thing. Generally, there's no need to use the word "fujoshi" in western fandom. why? it's not a necessity. nobody cares if you yell about an anime ship with no consideration as to who might see. here, there's more tolerance for loud shippers, because we're a majority.
but the ones who do use it? not my problem. I have yet to find a large number of western fans identifying as a fujoshi and exhibiting red flags. I've looked on Twitter, and most of them are the likes of "i want more fujoshi mutuals, RT if you like [BL]".
so it's not like they're spreading measurable damage anywhere. they just want to connect with fans of BL and mlm ships. "but fujoshis sexualize xyz and fetishize abc--" again, the broad definition of fujoshi is "female fan of mlm" of course there'll be a few bad apples.
"emi shut up why do you even care?? the western fans made the word look bad, it has a negative connotation here."

yes. they did. and it's okay to not want to call yourself or anyone else a fujoshi. but the main issue. the absolute core of my problem with "anti-fujoshi" is...
they fucking hate any sort of "impure" BL or mlm works. Dark, horror bl? cancelled for glorifying xyz. they call fetishization for everything that's not wholesome and healthy to them. calling dark bl "not a bl" because the relationship is unhealthy. they police everyone.
"wow, sweeping statement much."

observe how "fujoshi" is used. TW TRANSPHOBIA FOR THIRD ONE!!! op has "gender critical" in their bio. it isnt satire.

general consensus is that fujoshis "want everything to be gay, hate women getting the way of yaoi ships, fetishize mlm"
but why not let it go?? why not take a deep breath??

you see, the primary anti-fujos on tumblr are IMMENSELY homophobic and transphobic.

TW FOR ABLEIST SLURS, HOMOPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA AND AWFUL PEOPLE

THIS IS THE SHIT I'M ANGRY ABOUT.
invalidating trans men who like BL. claiming every BL fan is a cishet woman (who can read BL all they like who gives a fuck), being suspiciously TERFy and garbage human beings.

But oh no. It does not end there. It does NOT.

many people are now throwing an entire genre away.
I've seen so many "all yaoi is inherently fetishistic" "BL is problematic unfollow if you like BL" takes. I've been blocked and insulted for gasp-- liking mlm content.

these people make 30 gay aus and read fanfics and consume anime with gay ships like they breathe.
on top of that, every fandom cop I've seen on this site is anti-fujoshi. yes. those people who claim anime high school characters have rights. those people who raise their brows at a ship of consenting adults. those people who bastardize the word "pedophile" and "cp".
because to them, if you enjoy any media, especially ones popular in shipping circles, in an "impure" and "gross" way, you're a degenerate 30 year old who should be doing the dishes and will end up in prison. and "fujo" is such a nice term to them, given what I showed earlier.
so please. please, please, please.

as an exhausted, sad Japanese fandomgoer, I implore you to think twice before using "fujoshi" in a negative way. I've seen it everywhere and will continue to see it, likely for a long time. okay? okay.
