/x To be clear on all the "new education utopia" articles I'm seeing. The majority of them are written and being retweeted by the same group of policy wonks whose ideas have continuously failed for the last 20 years. And now they are pimping their agenda as if its a new idea.
/x The lift to online is massive. 1st the students need the technology, then you need the data plans, and then in remote areas, then the data plans won't work.
/x And everyone's talking about how low-income students can access tech on their phones. Have you ever tried to write a paper on a phone?!?! Phones aren't a solution, they are a last option
/x And online is massively difficult to do right. I know. I've created online curriculum and content based curriculum as well. It's a massive lift.
/x I won't rant anymore about their ideas. They're spurious. Let's talk about what will happen from a pragmatic view. Education and higher ed budget will take massive cuts, and will be low on the totem pole of priorities for cities and states.
/x If we don't monitor the inane ideas that will pop up to replace the funding, the level of disenfranchisement that we will experience will be massive.
/x Every damn "ed tech expert," 99% of whom don't know what they are talking about (again I know cause I've talked to too many of them to count) is going to try and sell snake oil with 7 figure contracts
/x And every existing policy wonk is going to be pushing the same damn agenda that has no chance of working cause that's what they get paid to do. So.....
/x ....instead, how about for now all of us in the ed world redirect our funding to help do all we can humanly do to address the immediate needs that are right in front of our faces. And not get into philosophical bullshit "what if," discussions until after.....
/10 .... the dust settles, people have buried their loved ones, people been allowed to mourn, and some sense of order has been reestablished. Cause the rest is all useless.
