I know many people are scared of 4 more years of this mess and lots saying “vote for Biden or its a vote for trump” are mostly people who wanted someone else, but this rhetorical strategy didn’t work with independents in 2016 and it’s not going to work now.
This isn’t a threat, by the way. It’s a fact. If it did work, okay? I guess? But it didn’t and it doesn’t. It’s reality.

And Please remember that non-voters aren’t pouty “Bernie-bros”. https://twitter.com/jeremyscahill/status/1248291301025550339?s=21
You’re probably not going to shame someone like this into giving Biden their vote, and they don’t seem all that much of a radical leftist. https://twitter.com/100_disable_vet/status/1248330696252444673?s=21
Never mind emotionally—logically it doesn’t work. First, it is based on the assumption that Biden is the next most-likely choice of 3rd party voters. It’s also based on the assumption non-voters would choose him, if voting. The first one... maybe. The second one 😬😬😬
Once again... https://twitter.com/summerforpa/status/1248603929337901056?s=21 https://twitter.com/summerforpa/status/1248603929337901056
If you say the reality is one of these 2 will win so not voting for one therefore helps the other, then you can logically take this a step back: Given the known reality that most independents were not ever going to vote for Biden, voting Biden in the primary was a vote for trump.
“It doesn’t matter how bad Biden is, Trump is worse!” Is he really in any meaningful way? The only argument for Biden is that he’s mask-on and Trump says the silent part out loud. They’re both racists, but the D next to Biden’s name means many Dems check out if he’s in office.
And what difference does it make if the results are the same?
Wealth inequality grew, people still had to pay silly premiums for healthcare with ACA. Many still weren’t covered.
He silenced Anita hill to cover for Thomas. He was pals with Scalia. He eulogized Strom Thurmond. He was pro segregation. He championed the 94 crime bill. He ramped up the war on drugs and mass incarceration. He’s tried to cut social security and Medicare.
He said “Roe vs Wade” went too far. He said he’s veto M4A. To a group of billionaire donors, he said nothing would fundamentally change with him as president.
I’ve been told he’s changed. He’s a liar and a career politician who has only ever cared about being and staying in positions of power. Do you really trust him? It’d be one thing if it were one or two bad votes or issues but, he’s got a 50+ year record. it just keeps going.
He was the co-architect of the Iraq war. He got Democrats on board and behind Bush with his war mongering. If not for him, it maybe wouldn’t have happened.
He more recently said he’s in favor of some kind of border wall. More people were deported under him and Obama than any other administration. Again, they built the cages and put kids in them. ICE continued operating under them. They could have stopped it any time.
Biden has 8 sexual assault allegations. Have you seen the video of him inappropriately touching young girls? And you’re really going to base your whole argument on voting for him that he’s not orange man?
In “normal” circumstances, Biden is an absurdly bad candidate with an awful record. If you think criticism of Biden from the left has been bad... just wait. This was day one of him being the presumptive nominee: https://twitter.com/jackallisonlol/status/1248242986279768065?s=21
Democrats have been demanding unity since 1/4 of the way through when nothing had been decided. Quietly lining up now means people stop voting on downballot issues through the primary. It also will only alienate independent and progressive voters in states that haven’t voted.
And what will it really do besides convince the Democrats they have the left locked up and begin pre-compromising with Republicans, like always? If you want them to move left, plant your feet and make them come to you.
If the Democrats cared about those issues and races, they’d have done anything possible to postpone and allow mail in voting. Even in a primary, lower turnout benefits the more conservative candidates and issues though.
Okay so it’s not just about Biden... people have mentioned who he’d surround himself with, SCOTUS being a big example. Many are actually not confident at all that his SCOTUS nominee would be very good. I brought this up too— https://twitter.com/microbrien/status/1248318365480841216?s=21
What about down-ballot races? I can tell Biden to eat shit and still show up for those issues and candidates. Still, overall, Biden will likely depress turnout among the left. He’ll actively harm the chances of a leftist coalition taking control away from the GOP.
What about pandemic response? You mean Biden, who suddenly went missing for a week as it hit? Who said it was safe to go vote in March? when he knew it would benefit him? Who refused to push for the primaries to be pushed back and changed to vote by mail? https://twitter.com/clitorisvoter/status/1248577919561146368?s=21
The guy who has said nothing as hundreds of polling locations closed despite the pandemic and still telling people to get out and vote for him? This is the guy you trust to handle this crisis well? Who thinks the ACA is the answer while 6 million+ have filed for unemployment now?
