I would just like to say that I work with women on bail and they’ve done some bad things (like VERY bad) in the past. They’re incredible people and I love every one of them. They inspire me daily. They’ve grown from their mistakes and deserve second chances. As does everyone.
Cancel culture is a disease. It started with good intentions, to get rid of the stardom of people who do horrible things and do not want to change or grow and do not demonstrate doing so. We can’t cancel everyone who makes mistakes when they’re young, that’s how growth happens.
I think back to stuff I regret doing and it makes myself feel physically sick. I can’t imagine having it all on display for everyone to judge and having my career be risked for it. If this is really a concern to you, the authorities are the appropriate channel, not Twitter.
Also yes, sometimes your mistakes hurt people. Sometimes they hurt people without you thinking about it, or recognizing it until later. The important thing is to recognize it, accept the blame and change your behaviour. If that’s being shown, what else can we ask of someone?
