There is a problem with the #HaloSpotlight.

That may sound abrasive but hear me out. I applaud the fact that 343 makes an effort to prop up fan content. They prove their commitment to us.

This community is filled with passion/talent & nothing shows that less than the Spotlight.
I won't be placing individual blame in this thread, because that is counter-intuitive. The answer for how to fix the Spotlight isn't exactly clear-cut, but something has to change.

Right now, the Spotlight is messy. There's a lot to dissect about it.
If someone asked me, "How can I get into the Spotlight?" I would have no idea how to answer them. That is a problem.

The answer should be simple, right? Whether that be "make amazing content" or "make something that gets popular", there should be an answer to that question.
You can do the numbers, but it's not hard to miss at a glance. The Spotlight is lopsided. It is a highlights reel that tends to cater to 2D art and screenshots.

This means that other kinds of creators get left behind. I'm not sure if this is a conscious bias, but it *is* there.
3D artists get a reserved section, usually showcasing between three - four examples. This is dwarfed by the twenty-ish slots dedicated to drawn art. If you specialize in other fields, whether that be music or writing it's almost a guarantee that your content will not make it in.
To present you with some math, let's take a look at the most recent Spotlight from today.

There were exactly five pieces of 3D art.

In comparison, there were *almost thirty* pieces of 2D art / paintings. That's nearly six times the amount of 3D artwork.
Perhaps a one-off? Let's look at March 12th.

There were once again five pieces of 3D art.

In comparison, there were twenty-three pieces of 2D art / paintings,
I want to preface, I don't believe for a second that these talented individuals shouldn't be shouted out for their hard work. I don't want to see the Spotlight shrink in size or scope.

But there's a swathe of equally talented members of the community being excluded.
The numbers are there. They're disproportionate. This speaks to a greater problem with the Spotlight. Gifted individuals don't get the recognition they deserve, and that's a shame.

I don't speak for myself here. I don't care if I get featured or not. I care about other artists.
I'm thankful for the folks running it & for their hard work. They don't *have* to do what they do. There's so much potential for this, & I truly want to see this seed cultivated and cared for.

There is a problem with the #HaloSpotlight. So let's talk about it, and let's fix it.
