Unpopular opinion: people with ADHD aren’t lazy, neurotypicals just don’t have the capacity to understand or appreciate how we work, and really we are more productive, create more solutions and are more creative and effective with solutions, a thread (1/15)
Side note: inspiration for this thread came to me while I was doing dishes, reflecting on the assignments I had due and what I have done, and it morphed into this. This is just ONE example...
For those following along, Me = ADHD, boyfriend = neurotypical

He graduated high school, went straight to college, finished in 4 years, with no summer classes, with an A/B average at the age of 22, only had a job during the summer, and mostly smoked/drank with his friends in his free time during college.
(3/15)
I graduated high school, went to college, dropped out in under 3 years due to failing grades, took time off to breathe, went back to college after a 2 year break and diagnosis of ADHD, but only took two classes to start,
(4/15)
slowly added more classes until I was meeting the bare minimum for full time credits, work full time – taking care of kids, volunteer 10 hours a week – teaching kids, go to my own therapist, go to therapy with my whole family,
(5/15
reading books for pleasure along with reading every single required and optional reading for class, and now at the age of 26 I am one year of student teaching and 2 certification tests away from graduating at 27 years old
(6/15)
In the past 48 hours he has played video games, texted back 1 friend, went to pick up something from the store, went grocery shopping with me, had one fight with me – he sits there while I “complain” and then asks if the fight is over, and went for 1 half hour walk.
(7/15)
In the past 48 hours I have made 5 homecooked meals for us – two of them being things I have tried making for the first time, washed all the dishes from all those meals, made the grocery list and went grocery shopping,
(8/15)
looked up information on how HE can apply for unemployement, applied for unemployement for him (I was too impatient to way for him to do it), sent 12 emails, completed a 6 hour professional development training, tutored 3 students, helped 3 classmates,
(9/15)
started and completed/submitted 7 class assignments (2 of them papers, one of which I had to watch a 1.5 hour documentary) , started 3 other ones (we all know the way I do assignments takes longer than the average bear), played video games, cleaned the bathroom,
(10/15)
cleaned the kitchen, talked to my mom on the phone 3 times, face timed with my best friend, checked in with 5 other friends, recorded me reading a few books for my kiddos I cant see due to the virus, ranted on twitter about ADHD, worked with 2 different groups for class,
(11/15)
worked on my personal readings/self reflection, watched the cute neighbor kids play outside and enjoyed the happiness for a moment, thought of 5 different ways I can do everyday things more efficiently, cut his hair,
(12/15)
planned out a fun date night, and planned out a schedule for him and I to stay sane, sorted out my finances and paid all my bills, online shopped for 4 different times (that takes forever too) not to mention all the emotional and sensory crap I had to manage through
(13/15)
so the next time I hear someone talk about how people with ADHD are lazy, I'd love for them to come spend a day in my head. Everyday I exhaust myself, giving more effort and more work than most neurotypicals can imagine
(14/15)
also, I could create a whole other thread about what I, an ADHDer, have to go through for ONE assignment. Even just watching me split up the cost of groceries exhausted my boyfriend
