Wash your hands of #COVID19 scams!

With a new wave of schemes beginning to spread, we remind all New Jerseyans to remain vigilant, to be alert, & to report #COVID19 fraud at (866) 720-5721 or [email protected].

Here’s what you can do to avoid these scams: https://bit.ly/2XoWW5M
Avoid messages claiming you need to pay money to receive your stimulus check: The government will NOT ask you to pay anything up front to get these funds. Anyone who asks for your Social Security number, bank account, or credit card to receive government assistance is a scammer.
Don’t take fake #COVID19 tests: People posing as @HHSGov or other gov departments may send a text or email instructing recipients to complete a mandatory test online or register to get tested for the virus. This scheme is designed to steal personal, financial, or medical info.
That may not be your grandchild calling: If someone contacts you claiming to be a relative or friend sick with #COVID19 & desperate for money, don’t panic! Reach out to your loved one directly & remember that scam artists usually ask for payment via wire transfer or gift cards.
Do your homework: New charities & crowdfunding sites “pop up” after disasters and emergencies such as #COVID19. Consumers should research before donating. Ask what percentage of your contribution will actually go towards helping those affected & avoid cash donations.
Don’t fall for travel insurance scams: Dreaming of the cruise that got away? Remember, many travel insurance policies don’t cover pandemics. If you’re offered insurance that covers #COVID19-related issues, it may be a scam. Know your rights to a refund: http://bit.ly/2UsG3UY
