Been thinking a lot about the racial and social determinants of health disparities with COVID19 which are not one bit surprising for those that have been paying attention to economics, politics and healthcare in the US. (a thread)
Also thinking about the millions of people that have lost their jobs these past few weeks and how they most likely will also lose their employer-sponsored health insurance.
Also thinking about the decisions that corporate healthcare (profit and non-profit) have made and continue to make that have everything to do with money and little to do with public health, patient safety or employee safety.
I see our local county hospital make better decisions & can’t help but think it is because they are the safety net. If they make poor decisions regarding public health & patient/employee safety, they feel consequences. The for-profit hospitals in the “fancier” part of town don’t.
I guess I don’t have much of a point to this thread other than saying this is what those of us advocating for universal healthcare, investment in public health and an end to corporate healthcare have been trying to warn about.
