The reality of poverty in Nigeria is scary, consuming and intense.
Add this lockdown to it and people are prepared to die from the virus because they have mouths to feed.
Yesterday night, I was at a local business centre at the Lagos-Ogun border and the owner of the business put it like this [I'm paraphrasing] "I will die just to know that my wife and children will eat. There is no lockdown that will hold me."
Today, I spoke with someone that has made only 300 naira daily since the start of the lockdown. He has mouths to feed.
For these people, the shutdown is merely a suggestion. The Lagos state bags of rice are a great idea with horrid execution. At Oyingbo, the collection is rigged against the people that need it the most.
This was Oyingbo today. You can't tell people earning 500 naira - the 500 naira they will use to feed their families daily to stay at home.
At Agege, several people have claimed to me that they paid the police to allow them open their shops for business.
