CW discussion of psychosis thread

As someone with a psychotic illness it frustrates me so much to see people misuse the term "psychotic" to refer to someone with violent and dangerous tendencies (1/6)
People with psychosis and schizophrenia face so much stigma as it as, and seeing people misuse the term to infer someone with psychosis is dangerous is so frustrating and humiliating. (2/6)
Its hard enough having to cope with psychosis on a day to day basis and the stigma that goes along with including coming from mental health professionals when the media and also just people in general misuse the term 😔 (3/6)
In fact people with psychosis are much more likely to face dangerous situations and face violence from other people than they are to be violent towards others at a risk lower than the general population. (4/6)
Psychosis is also incredibly common, approximately 1% of the population have schizophrenia and approximately 20% of people will experience psychosis at some point in their life (5/6)
If you are part of the mental health community and you consider yourself an advocate please call these people out as its genuinely so so damaging and stigmatising
