So I guess it’s time to tell my newest followers about the story of Tim Seeley’s Blade. Thread below: https://twitter.com/deadpoolcomrade/status/1248678102869454855
In 2016 Marvel started promoting a new Blade book written by Tim Seeley and drawn by Afua Richardson. The story was going to be about Blade training his daughter as the new Vampire Hunter. It was a great idea but...
People started getting upset, saying that they wanted black creators on black comic characters. Which while I understand that’s not how this works. Everyone should be creating POC characters, not only POC. But the pushback was so loud that Seeley understandably dropped the book.
Which is complete bullshit because now we get nothing. Now this character doesn’t even exist. This character could have started and soon be picked up by a black woman writer(case in point: Ironheart). Hell Black Panther was created by two white men. And now written by Ta-Nehisi.
The worst part of this all is now Afua, a black woman artist, lost a placement. For what? This isn’t inclusion. It’s the other way around. Long story short: 0 + 0 = 0. I’m still upset about this years later.
