Why do all engineering guys have knives ???

Anytime I need scissors and can't find them in the aero lab all of a sudden 3 guys whip out their knives and offer them to use?
I would get my own but always being around engineers has its perks lol, when we go hiking in the mountains at IREC I feel SAFE
When we're doing ejection tests at 2 am on campus or when I'm leaving the lab at 5 am after working there all night and an engineering guy walks me to my car I feel SAFE loll
