alright, let’s talk jason todd’s harry potter house! while a number of my mutuals might assign him as a ravenclaw because of his demonstration of a curiosity and a love of learning, i’m gonna explain why i think jason is instead a gryffindor.
for the sake of being on the same page (as well as it being very in-depth and well-researched), i’m working with the theory in the sortinghatchats systems. basically, it breaks characters down based on motivations (primary house) and methods (secondary house).
it’s a ridiculously detailed system, so the best i can do is throw some pictures, a basic explanation page, and the official quiz/guided tour at you.

the whole primary/secondary thing ultimately doesn’t matter much for this particular analysis, given that i personally believe jason is a gryffindor both in motivation and in method. alright, paperwork out of the way, now it’s time for the actual jason meta.
while jason’s love of learning is certainly a trait characteristic of ravenclaws, i wouldn’t call it jason’s defining trait. rather, i’d say jason is mainly characterized by an inability to stand idle in the face of something that goes against his strong, innate moral system.
if a situation is going down that jason cannot accept because of his morals, jason *has* to intervene, otherwise it would feel wrong to him. hell, there aren’t enough images that you can add to a single tweet to showcase all the times that this is the case. and there are a LOT.
jason innately feels that things are wrong. compare this to the external moral system of a ravenclaw, who would instead evaluate whether something is right or wrong based on outside sources. jason doesn’t seek the answer of right or wrong, because it’s already in his heart.
it isn’t a moral system that jason slowly develops with more information. bruce has already tried to teach jason his own moral system. but jason can’t be taught a new moral system when he has his own, one that does not shake or waver in the face of new information.
not only that, but jason is a person who reacts more often than he plans. that’s not to say he never plans, as he’ll certainly plan for the long game. but if he sees something happening right now and right in front of him? he’s not going to wait, he’s going to take action.
a ravenclaw would have a delay in action, time taken to step back and look at all of the facts, consider possible scenarios, and move from there. if jason sees a man doing fucked up shit, i can sooner imagine him shooting the guy rather than pondering upon all of that.
on top of that, jason isn’t as concerned with objectivity as a ravenclaw would be. he often has a very skewed internal perspective. he‘s not going to try to seek out objective truth when he prefers to quickly act on the information and situations immediately presented to him.
jason is also *incredibly* direct with his methods. i think this scene alone speaks for itself because damn if that isn’t putting the issue directly on the platter. and there are a lot more examples. i mean, the guy does try to stop crime by shooting the criminals dead.
an innate moral system, immediate and necessary action, straightforward methods, and acting based on his heart rather than seeking objective truth? those are all very gryffindor traits, and all traits that jason possesses.
jason is a gryffindor and that’s all i have to say on the matter
