Others said they simply didn& #39;t have the capacity to do this.

This is why many experts think the federal officials should be keeping track. But they aren& #39;t.
Only 16 states gave us the actual names of nursing homes with known COVID outbreaks — most states and local governments have refused to do so.

Story has been updated with new data from California, via @anblanx: the state is tracking 191 nursing homes with COVID infections.

That means nearly 2,500 facilities with known outbreaks in 36 states.
