Where does the idea that Jesus was crucified as a threat to the state come from? The Gospel accounts are at pains to show there was no Roman case against him (that's the injustice), and the Romans weren't really in the practice of executing barbarian kings for treason.
The religious leaders have to find false witnesses to try him, and end up condemning him for claiming to be the son of God. But Pilate is completely different to that.
Does it rest on forcing a conclusion from reconstructions of Jesus' ministry? Insisting that only certain offenses ended in crucifixion?
