Can someone who knows something about video games tell me why my kid can be friends with someone on her Nintendo Switch but they can't visit each other on Animal Crossing? (I did not know what any of these words meant two weeks ago)

Same with Minecraft: she can go to a friend's "realm" on her ipad but not the switch. I am in hell.
