A week ago, @MigrantFreedom launched a #COVID19 Hotline to document abuses in immigrant prisons. Since then, the Hotline has received over 400 calls.

We are tracking abuses on an interactive map.

Here's what we've found so far:
This includes mass statements like this one from Jackson Parish Correctional Center.

In audio provided to @vocesunidaslirc, people detained there report that facility & medical staff don't have masks or gloves.

LISTEN:
And the 85 men detained at Mesa Verde, who shared their story with @4humanintegrity. They warned that #COVID19 “will turn our detention into a death sentence.”

At Otay Mesa, the facility that currently has the most confirmed in-custody #COVID19 cases, 23 people began a hunger strike in protest of the conditions and demanded their release. According to a Hotline call, 5 were retaliated against and placed in solitary.
According to a Hotline caller detained at Otay Mesa: “We don't have enough soap [...] We know that someone will die because CCA is not equipped to handle a crisis, the guards are not using protection. We're not even allowed to cover our faces with our jumpers.”
A Hotline caller from Adelanto reported the facility is only providing Tylenol for illnesses.

One guard is exhibiting #COVID19 symptoms but is not wearing protective equipment.
A man detained at Glades County Detention Center reported on April 2 that the facility had run out of all antibiotics, as well as all medicine for colds, pain, and diabetes. The facility would not receive a new supply for at least seven days.
At ICA Farmville in Virginia, phones are occasionally out of service, limiting contact with family, loved ones, and attorneys.

At the Yuba County Jail, informational & public health signs are posted in English. This not helpful for language minorities or people who cannot read.
And all of this is just what has been reported to us or in the media.

The COVID19 pandemic is exacerbating what we already know to be true: ICE cannot keep people safe. Detention cab be a death sentence. We must #FreeThemAll
