This crisis is telling us something in very CLEAR terms:

We need to UNTETHER health insurance from employment.

Millions are now losing their jobs and because insurance is tied to employment, this means NO insurance for sick people who are unemployed. This is unacceptable.
I believe it's immoral to stand by and do nothing or kick the can down the road on a system that isn't working. This crisis could result in 12 million to 35 million losing employer-sponsored health coverage. That is an unconscionable number of people.
My friends, I understand concerns about change, but we MUST look at evidence. Take a look at our current system:

Here's what happens when health insurance is tied to employment:

-it saddles businesses with health costs they can’t control
-it reduces entrepreneurship
-it bloats administrative spending
-it drives up costs throughout the system
-it gives bosses too much power over workers
-it makes the tax structure more regressive
-it reduces wages

Still need more? No problem....
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation ( @KFF), over the last decade, average premiums for employer-based insurance have RISEN 54 percent over the past decade. This far outpaces wages or inflation.
Cost-sharing has also increased and average annual deductibles have DOUBLED in the past decade. As a result, employers PASS these costs onto employees.

As you can see, I'm not making a vague MORAL declaration about why we need a better system. I'm providing evidence.
Medicare for All is the most pragmatic and practical solution to this problem. We need to untether employment from health insurance. Covid-19 makes this case even CLEARER.

I'm on the RIGHT side of history with this issue and am unafraid to say it.

Stay safe everybody. :)
