The exhibition curator, Gavin Delahunty, explains that, "the proliferation of violent imagery since World War II has led to new kinds of artworks that marshal consciousness of traumatic events and their cultural processing." Enabling the practice of psychoanalysis and trauma.
One of the most powerful images from this exhibition is this one shared by Carrie Mae Weems. This image would have been a common and traumatic image for AAs growing up during the Civil Rights Movement. A time when police brutality was at an all-time high....
and used to oppress the views and actions of "radical and dangerous African Americans." Furthermore, images like this and those of AAs being sprayed with water can still be traumatic for some AA viewers...
