Just dialed into the newser on what was supposed to be a day off. Dr. Arruda spoke about how children are less vulnerable to the virus, which opens the door to gradually opening schools, starting by doing things differently to respect distancing.
Dr. Arruda spoke about how the schools could create immunity among children.

I made this joke to my aunt last night. It's much closer to possible government policy than I imagined.

Premier François Legault:

"We are not excluding reopening the schools before May 4."

"It will mean, if we reopen daycares and schools, we will have to ensure children do not spend time with their grandparents. It's unfortunate but we will absolutely have to avoid it."
Dr. Arruda:
"“There will always be exceptions… But the more children are, in my view, immunized by natural illness, the less they will be active vectors for older people. There’s a balance to be found."
Later, Premier Legault emphasized that no decisions have been made, that any return will be gradual, and they have three more weeks (to May 4) to draft a plan.
I'm getting bombarded by very legitimate concerns and questions, most of which weren't posed or answered at today's briefing. All I can do is repeat a point I made yesterday:
This entire project is a mitigation effort, not one that is expected to reduce deaths and risk to zero.
I realize this is entirely unsatisfying if you're a teacher or a parent of an asthmatic child or any concerned parent, really. But there are no great ways out of this situation on any horizon I've seen.
