See this is the problem with people, they are unwilling to accept that the reality of politics is that no matter what you do, people will suffer and die, you will feel like shit for having been unable to save all of them, and then you will have to console yourself w/those you did
And this is why so many people drop out of political participation & flee into masturbatory universes of theory. They have the naïve bright-eyed love for their fellow humans, the passionate belief Things Should Be Better, but lack the stomach to do the painful, flawed work.
hot take: if your opinion is that reform and gradual change deflects justice for all by avoiding painful changes, you need to address the elephant in the room that ppl won't want or support those changes

See this is one thing I actually appreciated about the opening scenes of the FF7 Remake.

Because these "good," "necessary" changes intended to address a corrupt system that is driving many of them into poverty or dependency, destroying the world for them and their children, and pushing rapacious capitalism...

After all one of the attractions of sound-and-fury radical politics - one of the promises sold to a lot of naïve kids - is the promise of feeling like you're One of the Heroes, purified from the social taint of our past civic and cultural sins. Dirtying your hands spoils that.
