I've been reading about 'sin-eaters' in this excellent short book. It was their job to consume food and drink which had been passed over the body of a deceased person, absorbing his or her sins in the process and thereby guaranteeing easier passage into Heaven... 1/2
... BUT, a thought crossed my mind. Do any #thanatologists or #folklorists know if sin-eaters were treated differently when they died. We're they too full of others' sins to benefit from normal rituals? Simply interested from a historical/social point of view. TIA 2/2
