Tammy Abraham [A Thread] #TFscout
(My best one yet, so give it a read)
With Chelsea's transfer ban, Tammy Abraham has been thrust into the spotlight, becoming Chelsea's starting striker scoring 18 goals this season. As the window looms and the debate around his contract and role at the club. I will discuss his qualities and his future.
Finishing

Abraham shooting skills do need work. Abraham doesn't necessarily have horrific shooting but lacks a clinical nature. His 20% underperformance of his xG conveys his tendency to miss chances.
The main contribution to this is his overthinking when he has time and space, leading him to miss 17 big chances in the Prem this season. However, as he gains more experience, he will improve his decision-making in front of goal and should subsequently raise his goal tally.
One aspect of his finishing, which is a clear indicator of an elite striker is his ability to score all different types of goals dependent on the situation. His versatility makes him a considerable threat and much harder to defend against as defenders can't predict his technique.
Therefore, they will not be able to position themselves in a better position to block the shot. When he is on the left side of the field, he prefers to open up his body and uses the side-footed finish to place it into the right corner.
He gets a fair amount of natural lift and curl, hitting 95% of his righthanded shot into the middle of the lower section of goals. This preponderance also depicts his consistency in his technique. The right side is his favoured corner hitting 33.9% of his shots there.
When aiming for the left-hand side, he tends to favour his laces and strike the ball with a lower and powerful strike hitting 86% of his left-sided shots into the bottom corner. This is mainly due to his reluctance to use his weak foot scoring (0.3 per90).
The last aspect of his finishing technique is his heading ability. Which is unfortunately disappointing, given his excellent physic standing at 6ft 3 his output of 3 goals is mediocre, especially given the vast amount opportunities that he has missed.
His 10.7% headed goal conversation rate does seem adequate, but after watching every header this season it is clear that with more prolific heading he could have a much higher tally. With Lampard's tendency to cross it is vital that Abraham has a world-class heading ability.
Abraham love for scoring is also vital. JT commented on his "infectious love for scoring." Tammy loves to score; this gives him the extra drive in those scrappy situations and is often the difference between a goal and a miss. This huger for goals will do him well.
Overall, Abraham's shooting is underwhelming, and he certainly needs to develop that killer nature. However, he is quite inexperienced and has all traits possessed by the best of the best, so I believe as minutes come, so will goals.
Movement

Abraham's has excellent movement. This allows him to find himself in space and evade oppositions defender. He has great awareness of the oppositions positioning and locates space in the box very well. His excellent positioning is conveyed by his xG/shot of 0.16.
This stat displays his tendency to place himself in positions where he can have a high chance of scoring. His movement is complex and shows supreme intelligence. Instead then running in a straight line, he curves his runs making him harder to track and constant options.
He also gives himself a clear shooting line with 37% of his shots in the championship being considered high clarity. One downfall of his movement is the timing of his runs which is sometimes off resulting in him being off the balance or static while shooting.
It also increases defensive pressure. This is conveyed by 45% of his shots in the championship were under high pressure. In summary, the Englishman's ability to construct complex runs allow him to find space and have an increase in the chances of him scoring.
Another aspect of Abraham's profile is his linkup abilities. Abraham takes advantage of his movement to drop deeper in the buildup to link the play together. His 84% backward passing success rate conveys his ability to connect the play.
He also uses his ball well to link the play. Abraham has a strong upper body. allowing him to act as a target man and become a focal point. He needs to become more involved with him only having 14 passes per90 but he certainly has the vision, body and linkup skills to do so.
Overall Abraham is a top striker and has proved it through his good form particularly earlier on in the season, which was interrupted by injuries. Should he be given the new contract or should Chelsea splash on a new striker?

Should Chelsea keep him or replace him?
KEEP
Abraham has shown his qualities and there are other positions which require a more significant investment. I think Chelsea should purchase Richarlison and have him as a backup for Abraham. Given Richarlison's versatility, he can be deployed on the wing.
Chelsea can have two quality strikers but one doesn’t have to spend the majority of his time on the bench. I think Chelsea should offer him a new contract of 100k a week and hopefully, he can develop into a Chelsea legend.
