An important message to members who are @bctf Teachers Teaching on Call (TTOCs):
Dear colleagues,
It has been 3 weeks now since spread of the COVID-19 virus compelled the BC government to declare all BC schools were to be closed to in-school instruction. 1/
Obviously, this global pandemic is forcing radical changes in our professional and personal lives. As we come to terms with these changes, I hope you know that you can rely upon your @bctf teacher colleagues for mutual support and solidarity. 2/ #bced
I understand that because of the inherently precarious nature of your work, the worries and uncertainty can be accentuated for you.

I’m reaching out to you today to assure you that we are working hard on your behalf. 3/ #bced
The @bctf and your local unions are strongly encouraging school districts to provide meaningful work for TTOCs. 4/ #bced
It could be doing the important work of caring for the children of Essential Service Workers, to enable hospital and other front-line healthcare workers to do their part in supporting our communities. 5/ #bced
Or it could include supporting our more vulnerable students who will feel a disproportionate impact of the consequences of COVID-19. There are lots of examples of work TTOCs can be engaged in, and the @bctf &local unions are working on your behalf to encourage this to happen. 6/
Your Federation can also assure you that it’s our understanding you will be paid for any days you have been booked to work until the end of April. Be sure to check in with your Local President if you are being told something different. 7/ #bced
Also, as a TTOC you may be eligible to apply for Employment Insurance (EI). Please check out this info https://bctf.ca/uploadedFiles/Public/TTOC/InfoSheet2_COVID-19andEI_Claims.pdf for advice on how to access these benefits. 8/ #bced
I want all our members who are TTOCs to know that your needs and your rights are very much top of mind, &we are working hard on your behalf. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your local teacher association.
In solidarity,
Teri Mooring
