colorism, anti-fatness, and misogynoir win again. https://twitter.com/blackfilm/status/1248242567642112000
so... i actually never once said latifah was thin. she is not. by naming “anti-fatness” here, in tandem with colorism and misogynoir, i am speaking specifically to how darkskin fat women are never memorialized in a way others are because of those three things.
they wouldn’t put Gabby Sidibe on screen to do the honor of playing Haddie because in order to honor and/or memorialize darkskin fat Black women, the one doing the honor cannot be that.
latifah, in all of her beautiful fat Black glory, could only land this role because she is not *as* fat as and is not dark like haddie. that matters. it’s not a critique of her; it’s a critique of the film casting and the overall film industry.
