yoonmin au—

yoongi wanted to escape his workload and personal issues, he didn't intent to find a fairy named jimin in the woods, even less for the fairy to follow him back, refusing to leave yoongi’s house because he wants to help him. yoongi guesses he could use the company.
this au is a commission out of a prompt I had posted before. it’s my original idea and the commissioner picked it up for me to rewrite it!

> soft! soft! lots of fluff and awkward crushes. yoongi is trying his best but life is tough on him. jimin is whipped and clingy.

Yoongi groans in annoyance as he drives and remembers his day. He is upset and he doesn’t like being upset. They lost an important client to the competition. A client they all thought was going to stay with them. He’s mad and since he’s the boss he decides to take a break.
He doesn’t really know where he’s driving to but he's going the opposite way of his house and he doesn’t stop, he'll let the highway choose for him. His eyes on the road, trying to get distracted to not let himself think about how this is the second client they've lost in a month
The scenery around him starts to slowly change from the city to the field to the woods. Yoongi reaches a point where he’s surrounded by trees. Probably he’s unconsciously following Namjoon’s latest advice to go to the woods when he needs time to think and a break from everything.
He keeps driving for some minutes more until he sees there’s an entrance to the woods. Yoongi takes a turn to park there. There’s no one around and it looks like he can stay here. He exhales before going out of the car, hopefully, a walk in the woods all alone will relax him.
He must look ridiculous with his black suit striding down the woods, like he doesn't belong here, but it doesn’t matter because for once his mind is off work. The rustle of the wind and the streams of sunlight, everything comes together to let Yoongi properly breathe for once.
He’s worried because he knows who is the person behind some of the clients of his firm backing away from their projects. And he can't talk to that person because they're not in good terms. He’s stressed he’s losing clients.

He doesn’t want to think about it anymore.
He’s glad he left his phone in the car and just walks deeper inside the woods until he can no longer hear the cars from the highway. He's finally relaxing when he suddenly hears branches breaking behind him as if someone stepped on them. He turns quickly but doesn’t see anything.
He swore he was alone, there was no car near the entrance and these woods are in the middle of the highway so there's no like someone can come by walking. He tenses slightly, thinking about who could have made the sound.

There's no one, maybe it was an animal and not a person.
He walks closer to the sound though, he doubts it’s a big animal because the branches breaking and the rustle of leaves mostly sounded like a scared movement as if a little animal wanted to run away from him. Yoongi walks until he finds a small clearing in the woods.
There are white and yellow flowers covering the ground because there are no trees to block the sunlight there and the grass is high because no one cuts it. It’s incredibly beautiful and breathtaking.

Yoongi is taking in the pretty view when he hears the rustling sound again.
In a hurry, he turns again searching for the sound, to see what is following him. And this time, he sees him.

It was someone, after all, not a little animal. And it’s a boy hiding behind a tree not so far away from Yoongi. Only the top of his head peeks from behind the trunk.
He is wearing what looks like a white tunic or a long dress that covers all his body, which is poorly hidden behind the tree.

The boy quickly hides his head once his eyes meet Yoongi’s. He's scared. Yoongi is a little taken aback by the reaction, he didn't want to scare anyone.
“Hey,” Yoongi calls out for the boy. Maybe Yoongi should be the one scared since he's encountering a stranger who was most likely following him in the woods, but the kid is the one hiding behind a tree, skittish.

After a moment, he slowly peeks out from behind the tree again.
Even from afar Yoongi can see his small fingers curling around the trunk of the tree. There is a strange glow around the stranger, like a cloud of golden dust. Yoongi’s eyes must be playing a trick on him. It must be the sun and how bright it is inside the clearing of the woods.
For a moment, when Yoongi stares into the kid’s doe eyes, he finally feels scared too. He thinks this kid is probably crazy, running around the woods in a tunic. But if that’s the case, Yoongi should help him get back to his house or take him somewhere where someone can help him.
Yoongi feels like he should help him. “Hey, are you lost?” Yoongi asks after a long silence between them, he takes a step closer.

The boy scrunches his nose. Now that Yoongi is closer he notices he’s not a kid, he looks older. But he’s still too far to know he’s a teen or a man.
“Are you lost, sir?” the stranger asks the same question back, with a soft voice. Still fidgety behind the trunk.

Yoongi gets a good look at his face when he speaks and they don’t look that apart in age, but maybe he’s addressing Yoongi as “Sir” because of his suit and tie.
“Not really,” Yoongi smiles gently. “I’m not lost.” He’s about to tell him the highway is just close by, point to say 'my car is right over there' but when he looks around, he can’t find the path he took to get here. He returns to see the man. “Okay, maybe I’m a little lost.”
At that, the man moves a tiny bit from behind the tree, until Yoongi can see he's barefoot under the long dress reaching his ankles. “Why are you here?” He asks, staring intensely at Yoongi.

Yoongi guesses he doesn’t lose anything by being honest with the weird stranger.
“Taking a break from work." From life, in general, he would add but he's not getting deep with a stranger in the woods. "Why are you here?” he asks, curious about the barefoot man.

He shakes his head. “You’re in my side of the woods.”

Yoongi is confused by the choice of words.
“Your side of the woods? I thought this was a public area.” The last time Yoongi checked what kilometer of the highway he was driving around, he remembered there were plans to build a shopping center around here. There were even talks with his firm to pitch a design for it.
The man frowns. “I’m Jimin,” he introduces himself and finally walks out from behind the tree to leave Yoongi breathless.

He’s small, only a little bit smaller than Yoongi. But he looks tiny since the white dress he wears is wide on him. The fabric catches Yoongi’s eyes.
Yoongi has never seen anything like it. It hugs him in the waist but the rest is puffy and flowy, it’s almost transparent and shiny and it looks expensive and rare for a man wandering in the woods. “This,” he gestures around the small clearing, “is Jimin’s part of the woods.”
Yoongi is a little amused and a little scared because he definitely came across a crazy person however, he looks too innocent to be out of his mind. Yoongi plays along. “Is it okay for me to be here, Jimin? In your side of the woods?”

He seems to think about it. “Yes. It’s okay”
“You live around here, Jimin?” Yoongi tries.

The man nods and he comes closer to Yoongi. It’s a crazy stranger in the woods but for some reason, Yoongi feels safe around him. He doesn’t feel like he has to take a step back. Maybe it's his soft features and how delicate he walks.
“What’s your name?” Jimin asks once he’s so close Yoongi can see how his golden hair shines under the sun. Almost unreal.

“Yoongi.”

The man looks at him. “Do you need help, sir Yoongi?” he asks expectantly. Yoongi doesn't tell him he's not supposed to say those two together.
Yoongi’s eyes widen at the sudden question. He needs help with life, in general. “I don’t- I don’t think I-” He looks at Jimin. The man looks like he wants Yoongi to answer positively to his question, almost vibrating where he stands. "Yeah, I need help..." Yoongi murmurs.
He won't get mopey with a stranger in the woods, he won't. This is not what he came here for. "I need help getting back to my car," he says as if that's what he meant when agreeing.

Jimin shakes his head. “No, I think you need to talk,” he smiles as if he read Yoongi's mind.
Yoongi almosts laughs at that. He needs to talk to someone, yes...

"You need help," Jimin repeats and for some reason, he sounds happy by that piece of information. "Someone to talk to about what's making you so gloomy." Yoongi blinks. Is it that obvious he's having a bad time?
“I’ll listen,” Jimin announces and he sits down between the many flowers of the small clearing. The skirt of his white dress falls wide around him.

Yoongi is sure this isn't happening because it's just too bizarre to be real. He's hesitant but he sits down next to Jimin.
He doesn’t know where to start. A beautiful and weird stranger just told him he will listen to his problems and actually looks eager to listen to them and Yoongi is more than confused. But... he does need someone to vent to.

“Work is killing me,” he finally starts.
Jimin nods, urging him to go on. "I haven’t seen my friends in weeks, haven’t called my family either…" He doesn't want to talk to them because he's heard their advice already. "I stay at work all day and if something goes wrong there I loose it.” Which is what happened today.
Yoongi doesn’t understand why this stranger makes him feel so at ease but he finds himself sighing and talking about what he's trying to ignore all the time. “My ex-boyfriend- fiance, he’s my ex-fiance... everything was supposed to be clear between us already but we’re fighting"
"We’re in a long fight and it just doesn’t stop!” Jimin stares at him with wide eyes. He opens his mouth but doesn’t speak, only frowns but nods, so Yoongi can keep going. “He's now working with the competition of my firm, and some of the clients are now leaving us for them."
"I run such a small firm, I know he's calling my clients and that's mean- the competition doesn't need my clients." Yoongi has never said this out loud but he lets himself complain, "and they must be leaving us because he's a good architect. A way better architect than me."
Jimin once again bites his lower lip as if stopping himself from talking, right now he's just listening to Yoongi. “And I know he's doing this because he's upset at me, and he has all right to be." Yoongi looks away, "but I’m so tired," he runs out of breath as he vents out.
He picks at a flower as he speaks, deciding to pluck at the grass around it. "I just want the fight to be over. I just wish I could talk to him, understand why we’re still so upset at each other and get it over with.“ He falls silent after that but the stranger doesn't speak up.
Instead, he's looking at Yoongi with an undecipherable expression. It's as if he knows Yoongi is not done venting. “But I can’t talk to him because I don't want to get back together with him because I’m not in love with him, which was what caused all of this to go to shit…”
Jimin squints his eyes like he's searching for the perfect advice. “But talk to him without getting back together, Sir!”

Yoongi knows how a conversation with Minhyun would go like... “It’s not that easy Jimin.”

Jimin pouts. He doesn’t seem satisfied. “Humans are confusing.”
Yoongi looks away from all the grass he has pulled from the ground to look at the man sitting next to him. He blinks at him. That’s such a weird thing to say because he's not considering himself human- Yoongi finds himself laughing, which is something he hasn’t done in a while.
Jimin crosses his arms over his chest, frustrated at the laughter. “Really! You’re saying you want to talk to him and that you don’t want to get back together then do it! Do what you want to do! What’s stopping you?”

Yoongi stares at him, he doesn’t think he can explain.
But if he has to answer, then- "I don't want to confront him. It's going to be ugly and I'm afraid of doing so," he doesn't like admitting he's a coward but he is and it's not like it will matter if a stranger in the woods judges him for it. They won't see each other again.
That seems to be a good answer for Jimin because afterward, he falls silent. "Fear is something difficult to overcome," he adds after a moment and Yoongi can only nod in agreement.

It's true. He's afraid of confronting Minhyun, talking to his friends, reaching out to his family.
And he's not doing anything about it, which is what gets him to this moment: running away from work when something goes wrong and ending up explaining his problems to a stranger who runs barefoot in the woods.

At least he feels a lot calmer now after talking about it.
Yoongi notices the sun is setting and he sighs. “I should get going, Jimin. Thank you for listening but could you show me the way out of your side of the woods?” Yoongi smiles weakly at the man.

Jimin just nods eagerly and he grabs Yoongi’s hand in his to help him stand up.
It’s strange because it feels like something runs through Yoongi’s skin once Jimin touches him.
Yoongi doesn't let go of Jimin's hand and the man leads the way out of the small clearing. With Jimin walking in front of him, Yoongi can only see his back; how his blond hair curls on his nape and how the fabric of his dress seems threaded by gold. Yoongi must be dreaming.
Once he finds the path where he walking by earlier everything is easy and he catches up to Jimin. Maybe the small clearing back there truly was Jimin's tiny piece of the woods because he knows his way between the trees. Even though Yoongi doesn't remember taking so many turns.
He finally sees his car in the distance, he gestures at it to ask Jimin if he maybe needs somewhere to go to because Yoongi could drive him there but when he turns around, Jimin isn’t there anymore. Yoongi hadn't noticed he was no longer holding hands with him. He just vanished.
Yoongi walks to his car alone, trying to understand what just happened. He thought they had gotten along but Jimin just left. Maybe Yoongi was too overwhelming with his problems... or maybe he hallucinated the whole meeting.

Jimin was gorgeous, so maybe Yoongi did imagine him.
Yoongi takes his suit off and throws it on the backseat. Before entering the driver seat he glances one more time in the woods. He really feels a lot better, so he guesses it was worth coming here.

He is driving home, still thinking about the stranger. He had a pretty name…
Maybe if he imagined it, and it was just a daydream his mind came up with, then Yoongi will forget about it eventually. It felt real but at the same time, it didn't. Yoongi repeats the pretty name before he forgets. “Jimin…”

“Yes?” comes a tiny voice next to him.
Yoongi is startled by the voice. He’s sure someone just replied to him. He swears someone talked next to him right now. Quickly, Yoongi looks to the seat next to his, as to not lose sight of the road but enough to search for the voice. And he catches him.

Jimin.
He sees him but it’s not the same Jimin as the one in the woods, now it’s just a tiny thing that could fit on Yoongi’s palm, sitting on the seat next to his, it’s a small, small, smiling Jimin. “Yes, Sir?”

Yoongi screams. He lets out a weird shriek and looks at the road again.
“Are you real?” He asks, his voice high and pitchy. It can't be. If he had suspicions about the strange encounter in the clearing of the woods not being true, then now he's sure. He must be hallucinating.

“Yes, I am!” Yoongi glances at tiny Jimin to see him stand up.
Yoongi looks back at the road, his hold on the steering wheel tightening. He notices his hand is bigger than the small thing next to him and he can only think of Tinkerbell at the moment. “I can make myself small!” Jimin whines in his tiny voice. It’s pitchier in his little form.
Why is he hallucinating? “Did he drug me?” Yoongi focuses on the road, expecting to see anything weird come out of the sides. He needs to stop the car if he’s drugged, can’t drive in this condition but he seems fine.

He’s not drugged there’s just a tiny human next to him.
“I did not drug you!” Tiny Jimin whines some more from down there.

“What are you?” Yoongi shouts.

“A fairy!” And in order to explain it, tiny Jimin actually flies to the dashboard and sits right where Yoongi can see him. There's a pair of small peach wings behind him.
The wings are similar to a butterfly but far more beautiful, almost transparent and they flicker leaving golden dust on the dashboard of Yoongi's car. Yoongi will pass out.

He thinks fairy is a far better title than a tiny human. “What are you doing here?” He keeps shouting.
The small fairy flies up again, just a tiny bit. “I want to help Sir! With your many problems!” he explains exasperated. “Fairys have to help humans who get lost in the woods!”

Yoongi looks at the road because he has to take a turn right now. What the fuck is happening?
“My problem right now is that you’re making me really anxious and scared by just flying there with your moth wings,” Yoongi speaks fast.

“Moth?” The fairy gasps offended. He huffs, crossing his arms and plops on his ass on the dashboard. More golden dust sprinkles around him.
Yoongi stops in red light and takes a good look at the fairy... His tunic is very different from before. Now it’s similar to a greek tunic, the same shiny fabric messily wrapped around him but now it's peach. The same color as his wings

“Can you make yourself invisible?" he asks
The fairy looks at him in disbelief. His tiny hands set in angry fists next to him. “Bye!” he yells with force but it barely reaches Yoongi's ear since Jimin is so tiny. He flies off to the backseat of the car.

Yoongi is sure his head is messing with him. That's the only answer.
When Yoongi gets to his apartment and parks in the garage, there’s no sign of the fairy. He must have imagined it.

He retrieves his coat from the backseat of the car as well as his laptop and goes up to the elevator. The strangest thing just happened and he wants to go to bed.
When Yoongi opens the door, he feels the suit in his arm shaking. He looks down confused and finds a tiny Jimin reappearing from inside the side pocket. He’s struggling to get out so Yoongi lifts the jacket. Yeah, there's a tiny fairy inside his coat. That's where he went to.
The fairy finally manages to get out of the pocket and flies until he's in front of Yoongi's eyes. He's so small and shiny. “This is it? Is this where you live?”

Yoongi is so confused. Is this really happening? “Yeah.”

“Okay, I’ll make myself big again!” The fairy announces.
“You can’t look while I transform,” Jimin squints his small eyes at Yoongi.

“I won’t,” Yoongi promises and he closes his eyes.

"Turn around!" the fairy yells and Yoongi does. Why is he playing along with a fairy? There's no way he's imagining this now, it's actually happening.
When Jimin tells him he can open his eyes, the fairy is once again wingless and around Yoongi’s height. Only an inch smaller. His clothes are similar to what he had while he was tiny. A peach greek tunic.

He really is a fairy with magic and for some reason, he’s followed Yoongi.
“Show me around!” The fairy demands. He's looking around curiously but they're just standing in the entry of Yoongi's small new apartment.

“Why?”

“Because I’m here to help you, Sir! And I need to look at your house to see where your bad aura comes from!” Jimin explains quickly.
Yoongi squints his eyes at him. Why does a fairy want to help him? What bad aura is he talking about? Well, it's not like he has anything else to do right now. He guesses he can entertain the pretty fairy. “Well, if you want to help me we’re going to start with some rules.”
The fairy nods eagerly, he seems attentive to listen to the rules. Yoongi is about to tell him he can't walk inside the apartment with shoes but he looks down to find the fairy barefoot. Yoongi looks up again. “First, don’t call me Sir. It makes me feel ancient. How old are you?”
The fairy frowns, he must think the question is dumb. “I'm ninety-eight!” he says proudly.

Yoongi’s eyes widen. “You don’t look ninety-eight.”

Jimin huffs. “How old are you?” The fairy asks, an accusatory tone on the “you.”

“Twenty-seven.”

“You don’t look twenty-seven!”
The fairy crosses his arms over his chest, he’s just mimicking Yoongi’s words for a moment ago. Until he adds, “Twenty-seven seasons old fairies are cute. Unlike you!” Yoongi gets a little offended at that. He thinks he’s quite cute. “They are small and just learning how to fly!”
Yoongi blinks. Twenty-seven seasons old? Jimin said he’s is ninety-eight... maybe it's ninety-eight changes of seasons. With four seasons a year, Jimin must be around twenty-four and a half. Yoongi sighs. “The second rule, just call me hyung."

“Fine,” the fairy nods.
“Okay, I'll show you around,” Yoongi remembers the fairy asked him to do so. Jimin nods excitedly. Yoongi starts walking and the fairy waddles behind him. “Kitchen,” they walk past it. It’s impeccable but that’s because Yoongi barely uses it and someone helps him with cleaning.
There’s not much to do other than keep walking. The fairy is silent behind him except for his footsteps. “Living room.”

Jimin screams all of a sudden and Yoongi turns around exasperated. His neighbors haven't complained about noise since he moved here almost four months ago.
The fairy looks in pain, his hands covering his mouth. Yoongi follows his gaze and it falls on the several plant pots under the window of the living room. Namjoon brought all the plants here because he said Yoongi’s apartment was too empty when he moved. Now they're withered.
He likes plants but he hasn’t been able to water them lately and the lady who helps him cleaning doesn’t water them. They look dead. “Oh no! Oh no!” the fairy whines.

Yoongi grabs Jimin's wrist before he goes running towards the plants. “Rule three, no running in my house.”
Jimin squirms out of his hold forcefully and runs towards the plants nonetheless. He crouches in front of them and starts to touch their leaves, delicately. One by one, not letting none one of them go without his touch. Yoongi stands unmoving behind him, he doesn't come closer.
After a moment, the fairy looks up at Yoongi over his shoulder. “You’re so cruel! They're dying!” His eyes are red and wet with unshed tears.

Yoongi is taken aback. He hasn’t seen people cry in so long and he’s gone through calling off a marriage of a relationship of four years.
He didn't cry, his fiance didn't cry, he guesses he has grown used to no one showing their emotions. And now this little fairy is sobbing so loudly over decorative plants.

“Why are you crying? They’re just plants…” Yoongi tries to comfort him. “It’s not like they’re humans…”
“How do you think you can take care of big humans if you can’t take care of little plants, hyung?” Jimin scoffs, upset. His eyes are puffy and his voice cracky. “Come here, I’ll teach you how to take care of them, and maybe then you handle humans too!” Like Yoongi's ex-fiance.
Yoongi walks closer to him and finds himself kneeling beside Jimin watching him as he moves his hands around the plants and they start getting back their color green. With magic. “You have to be gentle with them.”

Yoongi is usually gentle but he’s not in a good moment right now.
He hasn't cooked a meal in weeks, he gets to his apartment to sleep doesn't even think about taking care of the plants. He doesn't feel like doing anything, and most of the time he rather not stay in the house because he's alone here. But he doesn't call his friends either.
He looks at the plants in front of him, they're slowly lifting themselves up as Jimin touches them. It's not their fault Yoongi doesn't feel like watering them. He is glad Jimin is here with that strange golden glow coming from his hands that brings life back to the plants.
Yoongi stares at Jimin, as the glow from the palms of his hands, reaches his face. “You’re really pretty.”

Suddenly Jimin closes his hands and the glow disappears. He’s blushing but it’s not a regular blush. It’s glitter on his cheeks and each glitter has the shape of a star.
It’s adorable. “Don’t speak!” Jimin blurts out. Yoongi opens his mouth to apologize if Jimin didn't like the comment but the fairy only shrieks, "don't!"

A smile grows on his face because he just made the fairy flustered. Jimin only glares at him, blushing (glowing) harder.
“Don’t do that,” the fairy hisses. He’s no longer touching the plants but his own cheeks. Trying to stop all the glittery stars that keep appearing on his face.

“Do what?” Yoongi asks, really amused.

“Don't look at me like that, it makes me nervous!” Fairies are really cute.
