jungkook gave him a smile, a smile that resembled soobin so much, namjoon felt his heart melt.

“i want to court and marry you, namjoon.”
“why?” namjoon found himself asking once he found his voice again. “why-why me? why now?”

he didn’t understand- couldn’t understand. why- why now? why /him/? he didn’t have anything, nothing to his name nor would he be able to offer anything for jungkook. he just-
he just didn’t understand.

“is it because i’m soobin’s appa?” namjoon asked, trying to keep his hysterics low. “is that what why? so you could give him a perfect family, when both of us know that it takes more than a marriage to fix- fix whatever the hell we are.”
“is it because of my heat?” namjoon added quickly. “you don’t need to feel obligated to marry me because of that, or-or be my heat partner! i can find a different person if it’s burdening yo-“

“no!” jungkook interrupted with a growl, making namjoon curl into himself.
jungkook seemed to have realized what he did, before he blinked and shook his head, apologizing quickly.

“i mean-“ he bit his lip. “i’d- i’d prefer if you don’t look for anyone to spend your heat with. of course i can’t stop you from- from doing that.”
“but i’d- i’d like to help you with your heats. only if that’s what you want,” he added hastily.

namjoon... namjoon couldn’t find his voice again and jungkook took this chance to continue.

“and i do want to give soobin a family,” he confessed. “of us and him and
if you allow it, more pups between us.”

jungkook took a deep breath, and looked at namjoon, his eyes back to brown. “i know- i know that our relationship isn’t... the best right now. but-“

he reached for namjoon’s hands, holding them in his own.
namjoon felt like crying. his touch... his touch felt like his late night touches, touches that namjoon felt comforted in those hours under the stars, hiding his love behind the dark of the night, only this time... jungkook wasn’t hiding it, bathing both of them in the
light of the sun.

“so please,” jungkook pleaded, caressing namjoon’s hands with his thumbs. “give me a chance, namjoon. i don’t know if i can- if we can fix us, but all i ask if you give me the chance to prove myself to you.”
namjoon never got to give jungkook an answer. taehyung knocked on the door and informed jungkook of another noble, a duke bang, jungkook’s trusted advisor, to meet with him. he looked like he didnt want to leave, but he knew that if duke bang wanted to meet with him then it’s
probably for something important. sighing, jungkook apologetically excused himself from namjoon, standing up and proceeding to glare at taehyung, who looked at namjoon for help. namjoon could only offer the other alpha a smile that he hoped to comforting, which only made the
taehyung look more in pain as jungkook tightly held onto his arm and dragged him out of the office. before the door even closed, jungkook peered inside the room again, telling namjoon if they could talk later at night, saying that wanted to show something to the omega
namjoon couldn’t even utter another word, seeing that jungkook left already, but he looked inside again, telling namjoon to leave the tray on the table. he’ll tell someone get it. and again like before, he was gone before namjoon could even blink.
namjoon... namjoon’s mind was a mess. he thought that talking with jungkook will make it less so, but it only made it worse.

courting him? that sounded- that sounded like a dream, because it was one to him all those years ago. he could only wish that jungkook
would consider him as a possible spouse and maybe even as a possible mate, but all those dreams were crushed when he declared that he was going to court the princess of valeria, and-and then soobin happened... he- he never had a chance.
but to hear him say it, to declare that he was the one that jungkook wanted...

“i want to court and marry you, namjoon.”

namjoon felt his heart thunder against his chest.
“appa,” soobin’s voice interrupted his thoughts. namjoon looked down, only to see his pup looking up at him, his cheeks puffed and his eyebrows knitted together in his cute way of saying he was annoyed. “were you even listening to soobin?”
oh shoot. what was soobin talking about again? they were in one of the free studies, taking advantage of it for namjoon to teach some stuff for soobin. the pup was getting bored just from exploring the palace and seeing that jungkook was still busy dealing with work
and other things, soobin found himself getting restless. so namjoon just decided to have some quick things to teach him. but soobin has always been a fast learner so it didn’t take long for him to understand and learn what namjoon was teaching him.
so now they were just in the study, soobin making some artwork and telling namjoon the story of it while namjoon’s book lay open on the table. he was trying to read about the history of wanderers, trying to gleam any information about his heritage from the eyes of
non-wanderers, but as expected it was inaccurate and made many generalizations and stereotypes, especially on their views of how they treated omegas. he was barely paying attention to it in the first place before thoughts of- thoughts of jungkook and their conversation
earlier filled his thoughts.

“appa’s sorry, pup,” namjoon apologized, hefting him up on his lap. “i just had a lot of my thoughts. i didn’t mean to ignore you.”

soobin looked at him for a while, making namjoon feel a little- he couldnt exactly put a word to it,
but when soobin looked at him like that, namjoon couldnt help but think how soobin was too smart for his own good.

soobin cupped his cheeks with his tiny hands, looking at him in all seriousness a child could muster.

“did papa say something to you again?” he asked.
“soobin will s-sod-scold him for you.”

namjoon couldn’t help the giggle to escape his lips.

“oh pup,” he said, gently taking soobin’s hands from his face. “i dont think you should be threatening to scold your papa like that. he’s still your papa after all.”
“but if papa made you sad again,” soobin said, hugging namjoon and putting his chin on his appa’s shoulder.

namjoon chuckled again, kissing his temple. soobin separated from him, kneeling on namjoon’s lap as the omega replied.

“papa didn’t- papa didn’t make me sad,” he said.
“he actually-“ namjoon paused, feeling warmth blossom in his chest. “papa made appa happy.”

soobin watched as the smile on his appa bloomed, showing the deep craters on either side of his cheek, the same way it does whenever his appa was truly happy.
soobin couldn’t help but feel excited. he didn’t really understand why he was feeling like this, but he just was.

but still...

putting his hands on either side of his hips, he straightened.
“but if papa made you sad again,” he started with a huff. “soobin will give papa a piece of his head!”

“you’re going to give me your what?”

both of them turned to look at the door, just to see the pup’s other father come into the study.
he looked tired, but he still looked every bit like a king.

gulping, namjoon tried to give him a smile.

“i think he meant that’ll he’ll give you a piece of his mind,” namjoon tied to explain.

“yeah that!” soobin agreed enthusiastically.
“if papa made appa said again, papa will get a piece of me!”

jungkook looked at namjoon in alarm and concern, walking towards in brisk strides.

“is something wrong? did i say anything that made you uncomfortable earlier?”

“no, no,” namjoon assured him.
“i was just... deep in my thoughts about- about that and- soobin just misunderstood that’s all,” he explained, his chest beating fast under his chest. jungkook didn’t look convince, chose to believe him.
“but if papa even made appa cry again,” soobin said, wagging his finger. “papa should be ready for soobin.”

“oh should i?” jungkook asked, picking soobin up. “should i be scared of my little prince?”

jungkook teased, before peppering soobin with kisses and tickling him.
soobin could only laugh and asked his papa to stop, but jungkook only continued, making soobin squeal. namjoon couldn’t help but smile. this- this honestly felt so domestic- like a-like a-

like a family.

jungkook took a seat beside namjoon on the couch, slouching and
releasing the tension in his shoulders. namjoon remembered how often he used to do it around him, just becoming jungkook instead of being the king of brillanta.

“how-how was the rest of your day?” namjoon asked, soobin getting comfortable on jungkook’s lap.
“it looked pretty urgent when you taehyung picked you up.”

jungkook released a sigh, closing his eyes before opening them again. “a little tiring,” jungkook confessed. “sihyuk-hyung-duke bang- brought up that there was some unrest at the western border. it seemed like
infridia is unhappy with the taxes brillanta imposed on their wheat. the prince thinks im after their land and want to run them dry with riches first by having them pay high tariffs to sell here. i had to put tax them high because brillanta’s wheat farmers were losing money.”
“but are you planning taking over infridia?” namjoon couldn’t help but ask. living in misa made him unaware of current events, so it was his first time hearing of the tension between brillanta and infridia. and he could see why infridia would be an advantage to have.
they control the mountains to the west to if they want to reach new countries faster, they have to past through those mountains instead of going north then west.

“no,” jungkook said. “infridia is a headache. i dont want to have deal with that principality more than i have to.”
then he suddenly shivered. “besides that prince is creepy. the nobles wanted me to court his sister before but when he heard about it, he isolated her before marrying her off to a count in his court.”

“ah...” namjoon nodded. “i see.”
jungkook hummed, yawning. soobin was back on the floor, drawing on the extra sheets of paper they brought for him to practice his writing. jungkook quietly chatted with soobin, asking him what he did today and giving him tips on his drawing. namjoon was content just to
watch and hear them.

“oh,” jungkook suddenly exclaimed, looking at namjoon. “are you busy?”

namjoon was there watching their son draw whatever masterpiece he was creating, did he look busy?

“well, no,” namjoon said.

“good,” jungkook said, standing up.
